Honda Mobillio?

besides the small engine in it, what else is wrong with the Brio? surely not expecting a sports car for the money you pay,
whats important is how little fuel it uses, value for money on features, resale value ect ect....

been seriously considering the Brio for myself, so I really curious to know.

you want a sport car you buy a nissan GTR or if you must a honda NSX or S2000

I have a Bike I can race if I need speed. I love the fact that it's a Honda (Reliable), and that it's a 7 seater for under R 200k. The engine is perfect for going on long road trips and to charter the kids around. I just don't want it to feel cheap... I can't do cheap. Does look nice though from the photos I've been looking at.

sat in one at the dealer, the brio though, looks very well put together, feels like the old corollas we had in the 90's,
ie bulletproof, and since its a Honda should be a great little car, not badge engineered or anything like that, wonder how it does in the US

but like they say the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and since nobody on MYBB has ACTUALLY owned the Brio difficult to judge.
one thing that strikes me is SA car buyers are like zombies, if its not a polo/corolla then they will never look at it.......
I dont understand why there aren't more Brio's/amaze/mobilio around seems like a really good buy.

I went in to drive the Brio on my GF's behalf (she was looking for a new car at the time)... she drove it, but it drove ok as far as she knows.. i got in and drove it and promptly told her not a hope in hell are you spending that kind of money on a car that feels that rubbish to drive. Took her to the Kia dealership across the road and she drove the Picanto and was actually crying on the way home from the dealerships. She had her heart set on the Brio since she loves Honda's and likes the look of the Brio but there is no comparison, the Brio is a rubbish car for the money.

I'm I the only one here that thinks the brio is dog ugly? Seriously the picanto looks 100 times better. I was forced to drive the brio for two weeks and was ashamed to be seen in something so hideous.

I also think it looks ugly, GF on the other hand loved it, until she drove it and compared it to the Picanto.

the fiat multipla was ugly, I think everybody agrees with that, :D
what so bad about the brio? must be something seriously wrong with it for it to get so much hate,

I did find the early brios with the cream interior a bit  but the new black one looks a lot more practical and better.
maybe its a bit abrupt in design but as a car that will last? must be really good as Honda's hold their value well.

at least its not like those e Chinese clone cars we keep seeing around. and nobody says anything wrong about those, especially the c10 with its huge clown grin.....

TBH, I'm not entirely sure that the Brio will hold its value..

The vehicle has been value engineered to the EXTREME... which is not the norm for Honda at all..

The difference between the Brio and the Jazz are incredible. (yes I know they're different segments, but even so)

And the Mobilio?

Thought the Mobilio is based on the Brio I think it looks good. Not taken a close look at the Brio yet, was never a car I was interested in so just sailed me past :o

Edit: just had a look at it. Looks like a Mazda 2 :D

I generally love Hondas but the back of the brio is just fugly and for a similar price the picanto is a much better choice IMO, the drive in the brio is pretty bleak aswell.

I didn't own one - it's not the type of product I'd ever spend my own money on. But I did suffer the misfortune of having to drive one for a month. It's an exceedingly unrefined car, with an engine that sounds like a buzz saw when you start approaching the red line... which you have to do in order to get anywhere. Hondas haven't ever been known for their low-down power delivery, and when you're talking about a small capacity motor to boot the issue is magnified.

It does handle quite nicely for what it is, but the brakes are less than stellar and the cockpit just doesn't feel like a safe place to be. I wouldn't, for love or money, transport my baby boy in it, as I had zero faith in it offering any meaningful protection if things were to go awry.

I can't substantiate them, but I have heard rumours of cars showing rust after as little as 4 months. Looking at the quality of materials and construction it wouldn't surprise me if true though. I found the Brio to make a very strong argument for buying something like a Vivo that's a year or 2 old instead - it's just a completely different tier of vehicle. Staid and a bit old-fashioned maybe, but rock solid in comparison. The Mobilio obviously offers a space proposition that very few vehicles can match at the price, but I'm far happier with my 6-year-old French MPV than I would ever be with a new Mobilio.

I think the mobilio looks a lot better and is very practical. I would take it for a test drive. If you can live with it being a bit underpowered then why not?

Pfft, will Turbo the bastard if needed, will have to be happy with it though for the first 3 years/100k :D

good to know, but one thing I don't get is obviously they changed the interior color from that rubbish cream that will pick up every gram of dirt to a more practical black.
maybe if they re-looked the back of it and maybe offer a bigger engine for all the race car drivers out there, :D (india's version has a diesel) maybe a few more will be sold in SA

I do think it will sell , I do belive that they learning and future generations of the brio might be better on all those points you mentioned,
but right now is you want a solid dependable car thats not too expensive and comes with all the features you could possibly want, I dont see why you cant go with the brio.

Like I said the proof of the pudding is in the eating, somebody who actually owns a Brio can tell us what its like to live with on a daily basis,
or better yet, if they start appearing in rental fleets instead of the ancient vivo/corollas we keep seeing, maybe perceptions will change.
also I never saw any long term tests of it anywhere, keep wondering why? what is it about the brio/amaze/mobilio that people know that's such a big secret?

or is it a mentality that since its such a new design (2012) nobody prepared to give it a shot? since its not on a jazz platform then its automatically rubbish?
the first versions of cars usually rubbish, but then they get better with age, like with the corolla when that came out, today many of those cars still driving.
or dare I mention it the ancient Hyundai accents, even the i10, initially its rubbish but then after a few years its suddenly cool.

Future generations may be better, the current one isn't.
If you want a solid dependable car at that price range, the Brio is actually one of the last ones I'd consider... the Kia or Hyundai or the Chevy Spark are all much better vehicles for the same kind of money.

fair enough, but like I said how many of these things have they sold?
if it was that bad it would be all over hellopeter, and on forums such as MYBB/car forums, cant be all bad, maybe a beta version at the moment but will get better in time.

the Hyundai and kia are pretty much the same car, this is an entirely new car not based on anything that came before it, its not like a shrunk jazz or similar.
I bet in a few years it will be popular car, just bugs need to be ironed out,

this is definitely one of those cars that everybody thinks is  but in a few years when your chevy spark/i10/picanto is in pieces, the brio/amaze/mobilio will still hold its value
unless they do a major recall on it? or something really bad they find I just dont understand why so much hate for a good solid Japanese car, must be something Im missing here,

What you're missing is that it isn't a 'good solid Japanese car'; it is objectively poor in many key areas, and a compromise for the sake of having a new car that I could never in good conscience advise anyone to make. It gets more credit than it deserves purely because it has a respected logo on the grille, but it is not a good product by any measure.

Like has been said, the Brio is not a good solid Japanese cars... these are crap Indian cars with the Honda badge.. they will fall apart faster than the spark/i10/picanto... and i am pretty damn sure that they won't and aren't holding their value...

Looking at Autotrader, I'm seeing 2013 Brio's being listed for R89k, that is R40k off in just over a year... that is a RIDICULOUS amount of depreciation.
