Horizon Zero Dawn (PC) thoughs?

You still don't get what I'm saying.
All other new games work better and look better.
Sure, the card is not on standard, but otherwise you don't know what you are talking about.
My system works absolutely fine.
Dude, I get your frustration, but your CPU and GPU don't meet minimum specs. You mentioned that Far Cry New Dawn runs fine, but those minimum specs are more in line with your hardware:

As for Horizon, you are two generations behind on the CPU, and one on the GPU. I'm not sure what you expect. I would buy the optimisation argument if the game was designed for your hardware. But it isn't.

Edit: I made a mistake with the CPU comparison, but the GPU is the problem.

Whatever. Everyone can fk off.
I already digressed ages ago that my specs aren't in line.

You are trying to tow a 5 ton trailer with a corsa bakkie and are complaining that the engine is overheating.

They coded the game for a minimum of 3GB of VRAM. You can't get upset and bad mouth a game if you don't have a GPU with 3GB of VRAM or more. Next minute you will be upset because Flight Sim 2020 runs like **** on your PC too.

We get it, you don't have the cash for an upgrade. You have my thoughts and prayers on that one, but seriously get off your high horse. You admitted you didn't buy it and your PC doesn't meet minimum specs - you have no horse in this race.

I'll try the patch, but it seems more likely that it's due to low memory on my card.

That said. I still believe it isn't optimized properly. Since the evidence I have that all other new games run fine.

I'm not upset. I'm not bad mouthing the game. I shared my experience and opinion. Which I damn well have the right to do.

Furthermore the GTX 600 series cards only support the DX11 feature set of DX12. While HZD was developed as a DX12 game.

"For the record, DX12 is the sole graphics API option for Horizon Zero Dawn, so kiss DX11 goodbye and make your peace."

I am really upset at games like Cyberpunk, Control, Minecraft RTX, and Metro exodus. Tried them all, and the RTX options are disabled. I have an ancient laptop with a GTX 980M. Poor optimisation!

So anyways...

From what I can gather it was one of the best games on the PS4. I just got a 30xx card and I've been hankering for Horizon.

There aren't any RTX features, right?
No there isnt any raytracing. But it does take advantage of the rest of the DX12 API features. So do enjoy!

@SpaceIgniter

Why don't you tell the plebs that you may upgrade some day? Other than this turning into a Friday thread, they do have a solid argument.

Now with new generation consoles, the pubs/devs are going to maximise its potential and as it is consoles are driving next-gen gaming. I mean, even 1080p is now considered a budget resolution on PC.

I am also behind.

Tested game with latest 1.10 patch on an i5-4690, 8gb ram, gtx1060 6gb

It runs just fine, had one stutter when I moved into a new area after a quicksave post.

I actually got sucked in and played for 2hrs, great game! I'll continue playing it.
Those are pretty much my specs, runs great on 1080p.

Forbidden West will sure have path-tracing. It is also releasing on PS4, but the PS5 edition will be enabled with the latest technologies. I doubt, however, that it may come to PC... all pending on Sony, but I believe they want the consumer to purchase the PS5 now.

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

Thanks Fulcrum.
I will definitely upgrade if the finances are there.

I'm a casual gamer in any sense as well. The PC is mainly used for work.
I can't speak to people that are condescending and rude.
It's just part of the internet. Makes me pissed, but then we move on.

As I've tried to say and convey. I merely shared my experience. I was corrected regarding the specs and I digress.
I also know for a fact that it's the GPU because there is a clear popup warning before launching the game which says I'm not running at 3GB minimum for the card.

My experience was measured against other games I play at times.

Yet my sarcasm is exactly what you have preached in this thread. The irony.
No. I didn't preach either. I shared my experience. I didn't ask anyone to agree with me. Yet everyone felt the need to gang rape me for sharing.

Those are pretty much my specs, runs great on 1080p.

I'm using slightly altered digital foundry settings.

Ultra textures
Medium model quality
16X anisotropic filtering (driver enforced in nvidia control panel)
High shadows
Medium reflections
Medium clouds
TAA
Motion blur off
Medium ambient occlusion
Dynamic resolution off

That's only got a 1.5% performance hit over the original ps4pro settings.

Tried the game briefly last year..... pretty enough but contains nothing that actually draws me. And the great goddess stuff is its own kind of off putting.
