Horror attack on elderly tourists

Cape Town - When Austrian couple Klaus and Johanna Michl took a stroll at Noordhoek Beach on Thursday afternoon, their aim was to enjoy the sunshine before beginning the countdown to the end of their three-month holiday in South Africa.

It was a beautiful day and the pair of pensioners from Mondsee in Upper Austria just wanted to enjoy the beauty of the coastline one last time when their sightseeing was interrupted by a knife-wielding man who stabbed them and took their belongings.

Klaus, 63, was stabbed three times in the abdomen, once in the side and chest, and his wife Johanna, 68, in her neck. Klaus’s abdominal injuries were deep, affecting his intestines.

Bleeding, shocked and confused, they tried to find their way back to where their stroll started when a local woman walking her dogs came to their aid.

Their assailant, who came from the sand dunes, fled with the couple’s backpack which had travel documents, a camera and other valuables inside.

“He did not say anything to us, he just started attacking us. He was aggressive, I did not understand why,” Klaus said.

The dog walker helped call an ambulance and police but the police never came.

Yah well... here when invaders rob your house clean the police don't pitch up either.

These tourists will have some stories to tell back at home.

that's because according to some on this forum, the good police are busy doing good police work, so I'm guessing they haven't got time for this

Exactly. Spot on. How stupid must one be to 'let loose' in a country where there is a greater chance of been killed than it was in WW2. You think I am joking? Go thru the numbers and surprise yourself! The only major difference is: WW2 only lasted 5y or so. The situation in South Africa has been dire for 20+ years and counting .....

It's sad that it's gotten this bad.

One of the greatest joys of traveling is being in a part of the world where you never even worry about crime - can be alone walking down a street at 2am and feel totally safe. We've slipped a far way from being one of those places.
 
Why can't these ****ers just do crime without the violence?
 
Every day I get more and more shocked by the savagery in this country.

Feckin ridiculous. The austrian embassy should be all over the media with this, both here and overseas.
