I am currently on the Discovery Classic Core hospital plan but it gets expensive. I'm thinking of changing to the Genesis Private plan. It seems their benefits are about the same, but Genesis is about R450 cheaper and they also cover dental expenses.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't change?

Remember your Classic option covers you 200% in hospital that's 2 times the medical aid rates, genesis will cover medical aid rates only so I would suggest a GAP cover if you are changing.

Their Comprehensive is only R100 Difference for a PM on Classic Core vs Genesis.
From your current option you have the ability to downgrade to the Essential Smart which would cost you as a PM R1180.00per month

Genesis Private Plan also covers 200%.

Currently I'm paying more than R 2000 for
Classic Core and Genesis will be R1,580.

I do not want to downgraded essentially smart as it only covers medical aid rates, I want the 200% option.

Looking at their hospital plan compared to the one I am currently on I would save R497 a month.

They are a smaller scheme than Discovery. If you want to go for it you should, rather better to have cover than not have cover.

I think he is mocking me, R450 is a nice savings and I should do it. I just want to make sure I'm not going to regret it later, I'm always suspicious if a product is so much cheaper.

Not mocking at all.........you replied to your own question.

One thing that is really making me want to change, apart from an extra five hundred rondt, is that the current plan I am on specifies that Oncology designated service providers are to be state hospitals where available. This sounds way to vague for my liking. Genesis specifies private DSPs.

Here is the options I went through https://platinumwealth.co.za/forum/Thread-What-medical-aid-fund-should-I-choose I ended up choosing Genesis. Noteworthy runner up is MediHelp

Classic smart is 200% and has some day to day with minimal co-payment. Depends on the hospitals around you though.
