Hospital plan - Genesis vs Discovery

Ok [MENTION=9711]BBSA[/MENTION] here is my thinking so far:

I am currently on Bestmed Beat 1 Network. 2 adults and 3 children with monthly premiums of R3727. Genesis would save me R497 a month as its R3230.

Both 100%, both would mean the same hospital choices due to where I live so at face value the only real difference is price.

However.....

I was worried about having to use state providers for oncology but Bestmed allows you to upgrade after being diagnosed so this gives me options. I have asked for clarity but I dont think there is a state hospital with oncology near us so likely would end up being a private one anyways. Either way this is not the big deal I first thought it was.

The problems I have found with switching to Genesis would be
1) Waiting period starts again.
2) No dialysis treatment
3) Co Payments for scans etc that Bestmed doest have.

At the moment the savings is not worth it for me.

Not so sure about the waiting period, I thought it does not apply if you currently have medical aid.

Yes they might. I do not think they do it often. I'm going to apply and see if there is a waiting period for me.
