Hi All,

Our Head Office in JHB has changed their service provider for telephony to IS.

Since they changed, calls that the CPT branch make to them from PRI ISDN line drops after JHB switchboard operator transfer the call to an ext.

Calling the jhb switchboard connects perfectly, its only when the receptionist transfers the call that it drops. If the CPT branch phones directly to the ext. it also connects perfectly without dropping the call.

Any ideas as why this is happening?

Thank you

Finger trouble at reception? What happens when you call an extension directly and they transfer it?

Could be a codec issue? Have you had IS engineers look at the SIP logs on their side to see what is happening when the call is transferred? May also be worth asking how your PBX (you haven't mentioned what it is) transfers calls as it might be signalling issue.

IS got back to me and said "The calls need to use the G711 codec instead of the G729 codec when the SIP call is made and the invite message is sent."

Problem is that Telkom needs to convert it to the G711 codec because there is no setting on our mitel system to do this.

I haven't spent hours digging around for Mitel docs, but this suggests Mitel does support g729 if you are licensed for it.

And actually if you think about it VoIS is sending the call in g729, so the PBX must support it. It may well be that you need additional licenses/settings which is why it is failing is when you transfer the call.

In any even the next step is to speak to your PBX vendor. If you don't have one Duxbury support Mitel IIRC.
