I wonder if you can assist me, I am looking for some advice on a potential system that I hope to host

I am in the process of developing a system for a client of mine, that will be subscription funded. i.e. end users sign up online, and they get billed monthly for the use of the product.

My main area of concern is the requirement to process monthly debit orders.

There are numerous providers that are accessible via an API (mygate, i2cinc, netcash etc) but it all comes down to relying on my system to store banking information. I can secure the data, but I am still scared to do this without some advice.

Anyone gone through this investigation before? ideally I would prefer working with a service that provides an api whereby THEY store the banking information not me.

What scares me more is that we were originally considering going for a top-end shared hosting product . We are considering the shared hosting for no other reason than we are hesitant to manage our own server. We are coding experts, not sys admins so things like firewalls, antivirus etc etc can go horribly wrong very easily. Is my fear justified?

thanks

Working with info like that is indeed very sensitive and securing your system is a essential part, be it a ssl certificate etc

Ideally your best bet is to redirect your user to a secure managed page by one of the service providers for the debit order form they handle it and your client gets the cash this takes alot of pressure of you

Hi Crudler , look at payfast.co.za , no monthly overhead , they deduct a portion of the money paid ,
but all the financial data is stored on their side , and they do all the fraud checks.
Also look at adding paypal.com , i believe they can make payouts to FNB now ?
This way you dont need to pay monthly fees and you can still take credit card payments.

Thanks,

I am really thinking 3rd party is the way to go. I would prefer to embedd their functionality in my pages (just to preserve the brand).
Thanks for the payfast suggestion, i have emailed them my requests now
