Who do you prefer for domain hosting, and why?
I am looking at moving a my clients to a new host, as the current host is increasing the hosting costs and the down time on the servers have increased.
Any recommendations will be appreciated.
TIA

What are you hosting?
What platform?
How much storage space do you require?
How much traffic?
What kind of SLA are you looking for?

Which host are you currently using?

I quite like both Hostking and Domains.co.za.

Hetzner ..
Check out their "reseller" hosting - almost unlimited everything you need for R500 or something around there.

I include the first years hosting in my fees, and these sites are very basic the clients just wants a basic 5 page site and email. Will Axxess be sufficient?

If it is a simple site with low traffic and you dont need more than 1 db per site Axxess will be fine + cheapest option.

Afrihost = Axxess
Afrihost has no clue in how to host
This infers the same to Axxess
I'll second elitehost, they host websites, they don't pretend to be what they're not

Then again, I prefer to host all my stuff myself. It's cheap, and I don't have to wonder why my websites got throttled for no reason whatsoever.

If you're running a Wordpress site check out mshini.com - they do dedicated wordpress hosting with automated backups and SSL included in the monthly cost.

By far the best service I've ever received, currently hosting my woocommerce site with them

Domains.co.za

ppfftt..
Get a fiber line,
load up filezilla,
ftp down your website to your laptop,
get disconnected and locked out for x hours halfway through the download because they think it's a DOS or over some limit or some ****,
how you like it now?!

Not a once off as it's happened to me 4 times in the past 2 days.

Not an issue limited to domains. Ample's firewall kept blocking me some reason, much precious time was spent writing to support there. Elitehost was too slow for my liking, but never had issues with them. Hostking and Web Crew are in the middle somewhere. I've been locked out of a Web Crew account after outlook tried the incorrect password one too many times, similar story with a cPanel login at Hostking. I regularly download my backups though, and easily do several gigs in an hour so not being regarded as a DDoS threat is important. It all comes down to security policies though - some hosts are aggressive, some aren't.

I don't understand the hype around them either, they are way overrated. I will never trust them with a production server.
