They use interns for support. How can you run a serious business on a host like that?
Not for real stuff. Each and every time if there is something the junior cannot handle he escalates it without even attempting to solve it which is exactly what I expect.

If you want to bring the intern in support issue then use afrihost as a proper example you'd swear their whole hosting environment is run by a 20 something hippie.

I am being serious, I was once dealing with an intern on support who flatly refused to escalate the matter. I had to shame them on mybb before they took me seriously. Like I said, I will never use them for anything serious, well I don't use them at all. To me they are a consumer focused company that will maybe host Nan's knitting photos of shawls she knitted for her grandkids but for a serious business, no way. I always cringe when I see them recommended here for business purposes.

I think you are confusing them for afrihost

Afrihost and the Crayon shop that Laurie guys place name is escaping me.

Those are Nan and mom and pop hosting.

Really depends what you need.

For a VPS, Hetzner Germany is by far the cheapest and most reliable.

Locally, EliteHost hands down.
Good pricing and their support is excellent.

I just moved someone from a provider that wanted to charge R530 to update an A-Record! They're now on EliteHost who went above and beyond what I expected in the migration with 0 downtime.

Otherwise, locally Hetzner.co.za is fantastic, albeit a little pricey when it comes to data costs.

All three companies above are great to work with.

To me, a company must be backed with good support as it shows they give a toss.

Well, it depends if it was unmanaged hosting, then they will charge you extra for the tiniest task. Some bill you for 30 minutes, an hour minimum and if it was an overseas service charging $ then that amount won't buy you much time. Maybe they factored in some extra time for troubleshooting as well. If it was managed then yeah, probably a smaller operator looking to make some extra dough. Most big managed guys and even domain name registrars would have helped you for free.

Well I send a ticket to domains last night just after 2am

I woke up this morning at 5:30am p1ssed knowing I'll need to struggle with this the whole day.

Opened my browser Boom Fixed!

Sometime between 2am and 5am they fixed my issues. Wasn't even their fault.

Now try that with afrihost.... My fondest memories of them was when we upgraded to a better shared hosting package (back then I still did shared hosting didn't know any better) well they lost our database in the process and their backups "didn't run"

Elitehost gets my vote.

R35 a month for unlimited everything :p

Think only pay R260 year for SSL cert also. Afrihost wanted R1800.

It was unmanaged yes and for 15mins work, however they didn't give you the option to update it yourself.

So that I'm afraid is extremely bad company policy and I'll advise anyone I deal with to not use that specific provider.

I hosted with Web Africa. Their servers kept going offline and there were space issues etc.

Then I got a reseller server with domains.co.za and I haven't had any problems so far. There's one issue sometimes where I get a "server space full" issue when the server isn't full and then they fix it and then it happens again.

But that's about it. The speed is fast. The support is pretty good too.
