How about: let's discuss cholesterol

Exactly right. But instead of focusing on the small/bad LDL, the medical industry just clumps it with the larger/good LDL, and puts people on statins unnecessarily. Of course, they still have their uses apart from cholesterol reduction, because they work as an anti inflammatory in the arteries.
For sure! I think if you're on a low-carb diet, you probably won't have artery inflammation. There are actually test you can do to see if you have inflammation or not.

Check your triglyceride to HDL ratio.

A "triglyceride to HDL ratio" refers to the calculation of dividing your triglyceride level by your HDL cholesterol level in a blood test, essentially indicating your risk for heart disease and metabolic syndrome; a lower ratio is considered better, with a ratio above 2 generally considered high risk.

If the ratio is low then you can almost be certain that you have mostly the big fluffy LDL particles.

1.67/1.12 =1.49.

Old news, but fat was declared the enemy after Eisenhower’s heart attack. Fat was a flavour-enhancer at the time, and they had to come up with a solution because everything that was fat free tasted like ****. So, they started pumping everything with sugar to make it palatable again. You can almost mark a point on a calendar where America’s, and by association, the rest of the world’s health issues started - including the spike in cardiovascular disease, diabetes, etc.

Make Fat Great Again.

hello all

so cholestrol readings were high when they did a normal prick of the finger test for me think was 7.3

doc did some blood tests and says its not very high but not low and before i end up on meds i need to change some of my diet

he says cut down on meat and dairy and the likes

anyone has some nice diet plans or recipes on what to eat

and also how much of steak or lamb chops can you eat, eggs are also bad ..well the best part the yolk

Ja cholesterol advice can be a bit all over the place hey. The finger-prick tests also aren’t always that accurate, the proper blood test gives a better picture. Docs usually go with the standard ‘cut down on meat, dairy, eggs’ line, but newer research says it’s actually sugar and refined carbs that mess with cholesterol more than steak or eggs. The yolk is full of good stuff too.

If you want to avoid meds, maybe just focus on cutting processed foods, seed oils, and sugar rather than stressing about a chop here or an egg yolk there.

processed foods ya is the issue but i also dont eat any salad, very few veg

so will try work on that
You should be fine if you stick to whole foods. Just to be clear, whole foods are foods that are close to their natural state, with little or nothing added or removed. Think of things like an apple, a steak, eggs, fresh spinach, or raw nuts, they look much the same as they did on the farm.

In contrast, processed foods are heavily altered and usually contain additives, preservatives, flavourings, or other ingredients you wouldn’t find in nature. Examples include chips, bread, breakfast cereals, viennas, and fizzy drinks. A simple rule of thumb: if it looks like it came from a farm, it’s probably a whole food; if it looks like it came from a factory, it’s probably not.

Welcome to old age Sammy. Was also told my cholesterol is high, and have a fatty liver. You need to get proper blood tests done, you don't know what else could be linked.

I was told everything in moderation is the key, not specifically what you eat. In my case I ate healthy for an Indian person, hardly any curry, mostly grilled (not fried) food. My one vice was too much soft drinks, which was enough to cause these issues...

You’re Indian? My mind can’t stand that a guy called “Mike Hoxbig” with your avatar is Indian.

Back on topic: I also have fatty liver. I eat very healthy but it’s the cans of Coke every day that got me. I would probably go into keto if I swapped the coke out for water.

I also had fatty liver. Thankfully, I was able to reverse it by doing keto.
