Kid is just about to sleep so can’t test it now, but manual says you need to have it in P or N and foot on the brake to start it.

Could just be German litigation precaution but almost sure I need to put foot on brake to have it start and could have sworn the screen says it too but didn’t pop up now.

Will test / confirm tomorrow.

As all others?

I have never driven an automatic car that would start without your foot on the brakes.

SsangYong Rexton- uses merc benz 5G-tronic autmatic box. Will start in Neutral or Park without needing to step on the brake. Won't start any other way (obviously). I will double check when I get home (Tuesday evening) if anyone cares- but I guess nobody will, because it's a SsangYong.

My current is an 8th gen Civic diesel (again- had the auto Rexton before it for two years). I'm in two minds over which I prefer, I can see the appeal of both auto's and manuals. I won't lie, auto for commuting everyday. I've not driven a 'proper' dct yet, It's still on my list.

If I'm honest, I would choose the Civic in auto (DCT) if it were an option, but the 8th (and 9th, I think) gen diesels only had manual gearboxes. The petrol can be had in i-shift- whatever that means.

Me. Alfa Romeo Giulietta. My next car will be an auto though.

I find that statement more often than not to be the case.

No point changing a manual to an automatic just for the sake of changing, but more and more people go automatic when changing cars anyway.

And it’s incredible how many people were dead set on going manual again until I told them to at least test drive a proper DCT and I actually can’t think of a single one that wasn’t converted.

Now is it were manual vs tiptronic in smaller cars that’s a different story.

Nowadays, it's not always by choice, though. Manual cars are becoming more and more rare, especially with more expensive cars. For me, the only reason that I would like to change is because I injured my left leg a few years ago and driving in traffic becomes a bit of a problem sometimes. If it wasn't for that, I'd love to keep driving a manual because I find it more enjoyable.

Yeah that’s true the option is less and less available.

More so for people not buying manuals much any more so it’s a wasted R&D, Support and manufacturing cost.

Mine's not mated to a straight six like the beemer though, but still fun.

Just like VAG, and Ford, now Tremec makes shitty dual clutch transmissions too. I'll stick to an old school manual or slushbox.
