How Bashar al-Assad fooled the world

Well i also see it as the west making things out to be more than they are, all the deaths in syria come across as massacres with no rebels being killed but constant reports of fighting make me think otherwise.

Also he has not allowed the media in which makes it a bit dodge but i would not trust the likes of cnn and co after the iraq debacle.

I've read somewhere that many places are announcing protests a success before they even happen. How can this be? it doesn't seem possible and doesn't make sense, but all media does this. maybe they just want to avoid the propaganda in their country

"Rebels" fighting with ????? against tanks? Government snipers killing civilian protesters (your rebels) at random during peaceful protest? Cum-on!

Sorry i'm so shocked you actually have anything interesting to say, gimme a moment to take it in.

Small here is another good read http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/03/20/us-syria-idUSBRE8280G820120320

Interesting that the humans rights group is now accusing the rebels of the exact same thing as the syria goverment.

Thank goodness russia and china turned down helping these rebels take control, Torture, murder, car bombs . OMF syrians look pretty screwed either way.

Look at the rebels in libya, murdering and torturing people there but i have not seen much media attention given to that. When qaddafi was alive and running the country it was all the media showed, now he is gone and nobody cares if there are massacres over there now.

The moment you took was to short, you need a few hours at least just to overcome that bias clouding your brain, if that is ever possible. :D

There are literally hundreds of video`s, from dozens of cities showing masses of humanity protesting and dying in Syria on YouTube. This is the most well documented slaughter in history so far. Al Jazeera have excellent coverage of the Syrian issue.

Don't you know the CIA fabricated all of those videos?

yeah, they also dressed those snipers on the roofs in army uniform and secured those building so the civilians (killa rebels) could not access them.

This is no conspiracy against them. They are shocking and post fake video after fake video.

According to some they have been doing it for some time but the syrian war is where they have been badly caught out.

I am not saying all of the video's are fake or that assad is not killing people but yea you kinda get the idea regarding al jazeera.

You guys should rt more then you would have seen what they are doing and granted RT could be pushing an agenda but there is just too much coverage on this issue for it to be lies.

What ever is going in Syria it points to lack of control and poor governance. Clearly there's something amiss. When 8000 people in your country die who, other than the government, should be held responsible??

We can debate who's killing who but why are we not asking why we in this situation in the 1st place and what is the government doing to end the conflict?

So even if Assad's regime isn't responsible they doing a pretty poor job of ending the carnage. Government fail

Syria, we weep.

How many corpses produced by how many regimes around the world will it take for people to realise that the problem is government itself. Left or Right matters not a jot.

Those not being killed by their governments are overtaxed, expropriated, repressed, pushed down, curtailed, reduced, diminished, emasculated. In the West we keep people distracted with voyeuristic entertainments, bread and circuses - all while Caeasr grows more powerful and intrusive. Elsewhere it gets rougher. Either way, Caesar is too powerful. Parliaments and dictators multiply laws year in and year out.

My perennial badge whenever 'elections' come along: "Not matter who you vote for the government gets in".

We need to get beyond the Westphalian state system. Abolish the State! Grow wheat on the soccer fields!

There is no way to end the conflict, what is certain is the government is not going about it very well but neither are the people of syria. Taking up arms and taking on the syrian government was stupid. Didn't you make mention about biting off more than you can chew in a previous thread?

The trouble is the west want syria to become a democratic state and blah blah but the west's best mate is a country even worse than syria so why are they not hitting the saudi's as well? They preach about democracy and so on but they don't apply to anyone who is friendly with them. So the credibility of the west/US is out the door regarding democracy.

Humans rights, o yea they are very concerned about that but not really in bahrain. they allowed the Saudis to roll in their US bought tanks more than likely and put down the protests in bahrain. So if you were in syria's potition what you would do sandman?

You are seeing an enemy applying different rules. I don't know if i would just stand down because a country that is friendly with many bad countries is telling me to. It's a tough situation but elections are coming up so i cannot see anything happening before that.

You totally over estimate the influence the West have in deciding and influencing a change of regime not only in the Middle East but globally.

When the people have chosen, that's it. Change will happen. What's critical is how that request for change is entertained. In Syria's case it's with a sniper and a tank. In Egypt and Tunisia case it was with a resignation.

I largely agree with the sentiments here, killa. The current democracy-fetish is absurd and will destroy the West itself. The West once knew better, that democracy is not a principle or an end, but a means. Once the West grew rich and powerful it became soft and so abandoned the principles that made it great. All that's left is lip-service to 'democracy'. It is ending our civilisation.

Perhaps Asad should change the country to a dictatorship rather than claim his country is a democracy then?

Of course media from Al Jazeera is suspect, like RT and Fox news, they all have a private agenda. Hence the reason I watch it all. See enough angles and you get a clearer picture. However, when it comes to reporting on the Middle East. No one else comes close to their depth of coverage. Even if its bias. I see there are around 25 000 videos on the syrian protests on youtube. Go listen to the people please. Help them. They need your support.

Oh, expect RT to start showing more negative news on the Syrian situation soon. I see the government of Russia is starting to side with the UN.... so on RT the tune will tone down a little shortly.

I actually wouldnt be surprised if I watch more RT than you do. Its on my TV for at least an hour every day.
