A thread I posted to recently got me thinking about this q.

There is no even remotely exact answer so don't try to answer...it's a massively moving target and even harder to define (government/secret service data, offline storage, etc would be almost impossible to ascertain ), but this short article might give an order of magnitude idea...

how long would it take to backup the internet using 1.44Mb stiffies and how many would you need?

Big enough to hold all the cats that ever existed

You are only allowed to backup the internet on a stiffie by using the 1st internet connection available at the time stiffies were introduced...

Hmm geez that would be annoying, what is the write speed on these? How long would it take then to back up say a 150Gb game, would be more than 10 000 of these needed unless I'm mistaken.

no idea, but it would take a good 30 seconds to a minute if i recall to write the disk full
i use to buy the 720Megabyte ones as they were cheaper and just drill a hole into it and then PC saw it as a 1.44Mb :)

I should really make that dial-up connection noise my ringtone. Let's see if I can annoy my 2-year old more than she annoys me :)
yes it use to be my ringtone for many years but i stopped it as it was irritating everyone at work especially the millenials

kilobyte not megabyte  its been so long since i used the word kilobyte i had forgotten it existed

Damn, was just about to go on Gomboom for a floppy drive.

I remember I used to make crude drawings of trucks on paint and save them on floppies, wonder where they are now.
i still have a floppy drive plugged into my iMac at work
my 65yr old colleague needed to get some family pics off it last year from his 1.44Mb Stiffy
