How big is too big?

I sit about a metre and a half away from my 51" Sammy plasma.... Love it!!!

No, I lie, it's more like 2 metres...

I find the THX distance recommendations to spot on for an immersive, cinema-like experience. Nowhere near the far away distances being recommended by CEA. Why would I want to buy a big TV and then make it look like a postage stamp?

A TV is "Too Big" when you can rather spend the money better elsewhere - like an awesome projector.

I don't get it when people who mostly want size, spend over 30 grand on a TV...

Instead of spending R30K:
For general TV viewing, get a 51" Samsung Plasma at around R6000 (No, you don't want LED, and you don't need 3D), and a good Projector with the "change", when you really want size or have a "movie night".

For me personally 51 to 55 inch is the sweet spot. OK 55 might just be a little too big for my lounge, but I won't hesitate if I can get it at a bargain :)

I have gone from 37" > 42" > 47" each time it felt to big to start with. Then you get used to it. Had a good look at some of the 55" sets out now... tempting. But for about 11K you can get a 720p 3D projector these days.... On average I sit about 2.5 to 3m away from my TV's.

whoop... whoop 5K posts up!
