Hi,
I'm curious to see how much cap MyBB members have.
Could we maybe have a poll (international only)?
In the Uk and USA where I have had experience of the internet, the most common types for the Uk for instance was BT which included the phone at £15pcm I had unlimited data IE NOT CAPPED, and a phone line - local calls were free, for an extra £2per calender month, pcm I had free calls to the usa and all area 1, South Africa is in level 4or 5 and the calls were 2pence per min and were icluded in the local call allocation - IE free.
as to SPEED I had (this is important) UP TO 8MBp/s on PPoA not PPoE!
The USA sprint supplied 1000 mins of cellular and local call time which INCLUDED upto 20MBS UNCAPPED ADSL/BROADBAND for $20per month
in Good old RIP OFF RSA to get the equivalent I would have to sign up to Neotel's enterprise optical option, pay a R25000 deposit and then anotherR2000 pcm for 2meg up 2meg down uncapped.
With TELKANT its 4MEG SPEED (what they call , some twat in marketing no doubt) 4G with a CAP of 4GIG.
I also have to use MTN AND VODA as for some incredibly STUPID reason they dont want my money and certainly do not want the 4million or so of those who can only afford a small monthly amount to spend any money - OH NO, this is SOUTH AFRICA you must NOT spend your money - no please dont spend . SO I have purchase 100 MTN sim-packs or is that the remaining pack I forget at R2 each. I load them up with call time, transfer call time to the sims that have no time and individually charge the DATA amounts in 2G per sim. Because another twat in another 'marketing' department decided that nooooooo we do not want you to spend any money you MUST NOT spend more than R389 per month per sim for data!!!
What crap is this?
oh yes Voda is even worse.
You have to load up and oh my god if you don't load up to the max, ooooooh nooo you have to wait until all the data has been used BEFORE you can load another 2gig.
I cannot comment on Virgin or Cell c as they are still on the LAST CENTURY equipment!!
WHAT is it with South African telecoms companies? don't they WANT to make money?
Did you know that TelKom CAN do 8Meg speed? but oh no, they won't and you CANNOT do more the 4gig of data per month.
Did you also know that the equipment for doing the 8gig is in nearly all the Local Line exchanges?
Our Loop local loop unbundling has GOT to come sooner than that later!!
I want to spend spend spend, and I am not permitted to which is REALLY REALLY stopping the RSA economy from exploding.
Its a simple equation, give the 4million unemployed people access to cheap (if slow)internet and then you have 4 million self-employed people generating income for the South African Market. But Noooooo no South African company actually WANT to succeed nor do they want to really make money!!
If anyone is prepared to put their money where their mouth is?
Supply me with the capital needed and I will happily drive this forward, with no limits and no restrictions and NO BLOODY SAIX proxy telling me what to do!!
I would start with a 64kbit adsl line with 100 concurrency for R50 per month uncapped.
Then I would market 250kps line with 50 user concurrency at R100pm
and after that we start with first world standard ADSL
500kbs 50 user concurrency at R150pcm all uncapped un-shaped and unmessed-with-internet
1024kbs (1Meg up and down) un-capped unshaped in 50user concurrency for R180pcm or
1024kbs (1Meg) un-capped unshaped in 20 user concurrency for R200
then it would go to
2048kbps(2Meg down and 1 meg up) un-capped unshaped in 50UC for R 225
2048kbps(2Meg down and 1 meg up) un-capped unshaped in 20UC for R255
2048kbps(2Meg down and 1 meg up) un-capped unshaped in 10UC for R355
2048kbps(2Meg down and 1 meg up) un-capped unshaped in 5UC for R455
and so on. If you are interested you could also do the mesh thing with dsl wires........
also when are the mobile operator/s going to get their collective head out of thier (.)?
MTN Start selling DATA READY sims in packs of 10meg/50meg/500meg/1gig/2gig/4gig/8gig/16 gig packs (nothing to stop the user from using it for video calling and or voice calls hmmmm?)
Voda START by selling something useful instead of useless shares the ordinary people cannot afford how about data sim cards that are video and data ready and are purchased in R50/50meg R100/500meg R200/1gig and R300/2gig or even (oh wow) R400/4gig and oh my will they crack? R500/8gig data? Hell man even add on another R220 for Video calling oh wow!!
