Hi guys/gals, I have a large PV system that runs the entire house. To no longer need Eskom I would only need another 20kwhr's of battery.
In any case, I'd like to start the process of having my Eskom line terminated physically as the monthly fee for a 60amp breaker(which is required) for PV systems installed onto a home with existing grid connection is egregious, my connection fee in total before units is currently just under R1000.
I'll spend another R500k before committing to being smacked over the head by this fee for another 5 - 10 years - we know its going to go up.
I realise buying agri land with no existing connection is the best route but that may not be necessary if I can get the municipality to remove their bodgey grid connection.
I also realise some people might see this as a disastrous thing to do with regard to property evaluations. To that I say, who are you kidding - my house runs independent of a 4th world countries failing grid/wastewater/treated water. I'll ask for a fortune and I'll get it too If I ever sell.
Don't bother brow beating me for not knowing, I've gone through the forums - people either don't share the process or hijack the topic and talk shop with whether or not the system is big enough.
This country is a mess and if we don't get control of some of these money troffs for the ANC we are in real trouble.

Maybe tell them the house will be demolished and land is being sold. The power needs to be disconnected
Option 2 dont pay and and let them disconnect you ;-)

Contact your local municipality and ask. They will be the only ones that can give you a proper answer.

Have you tried Alfred Chat Bot?
But seriously, have you contacted Eskom.
Also, have you contacted your insurance provider?

This. You'll need to fill out a form and they'll disconnect it, and it won't show up on your municipality bill anymore.

Makes it better, Eskom service is miles better that the municipalities in some areas.
R1000 is a R1000. Who cares about the service. Just don't pay the bill and their excellent service will cut you off.

im on prepaid - I just switch off my connection to the "grid" and pay nothing for the connection per month...

If you have a contract, remember that just stopping payment doesn't stop your obligation to pay - all that does is run up the debt until they put their lawyers onto you and get a default judgment, which will be reported to the credit bureaux.

Do it the correct and honourable way by contacting them, completing the requisite formalities, and ensuring you have a full record of correspondence. You can be nice and polite even if they're not.

i'm on prepaid too, and as far as i have it this levy system comes from nersa
and thus it just depends how long it takes any muni to get their systems updated and you pay a levy on your water/rates bill according to the amp connection of your choice

so we now have a new entry on our water.rates bill
for electricity levy too

enjoy it while it lasts

i requested 40A and paid levy on 40A and had a 60A connection for a few months unitl they popped around to reprogram the prepaid meter, they also did the update at this time so this NOV deadline was part of the reprogram

2 flies with one klap in our area

I think that is a load of BS.

I meant the service of actually talking to Eskom and getting something done, City power here in the larneys is atrocious when it comes to such things, I get much better service from Eskom in the sticks.
