but cyclists think there is a conspiracy that motorists are out to get them. They (some) are the ones who put themselves in harm's way.

Exhibiting the same mentality and behaviour as taxi drivers.

That's a bit harsh, taxi drivers are single biggest contributors to the national IQ deficit. I don't think anybody can be compared to them, not even cyclists ;)

Arrogant motorists are far more dangerous than 'irritating' cyclists.

Cyclists have every right to be on the road and ride 2/3 abreast; you can OVERTAKE if you like. There is no law obliging cyclists to 'stick to the side' - in fact it's probably more dangerous as you get clipped by wing mirrors. Assertive cycling it where it's at.
Completely wrong, but I see later on others said it as well. Here is the full law

Riding on pedal cycles

311. (1) No person shall ride a pedal cycle on a public road unless he or she is seated astride on the saddle of such pedal cycle.

(2) Persons riding pedal cycles on a public road shall ride in single file except in the course of overtaking another pedal cycle, and two or more persons riding pedal cycles shall not overtake another vehicle at the same time.

(3) No person riding or seated on a pedal cycle on a public road shall take hold of any other vehicle in motion.

(4) No person riding a pedal cycle on a public road shall deliberately cause such pedal cycle to swerve from side to side.

(5) No person riding a pedal cycle on a public road shall carry thereon any person, animal or object which obstructs his or her view or which prevents him or her from exercising complete control over the movements of such pedal cycle.

(6) A person riding a pedal cycle on a public road shall do so with at least one hand on the handle-bars of such pedal cycle.

(7) Whenever a portion of a public road has been set aside for use by persons riding pedal cycles, no person shall ride a pedal cycle on any other portion of such road.

(8) A person riding a pedal cycle on a public road or a portion of a public road set aside for use by persons riding pedal cycles, shall do so in such manner that all the wheels of such pedal cycle are in contact with the surface of the road at all times.

And they are all supposed to have lights on

Lamps on pedal cycle

178. (1) A pedal cycle may be fitted in front with a lamp emitting a white light, the intense part of the beam of which shall, when such pedal cycle is on a reasonably level road, strike the surface ahead of such pedal cycle at a distance of not less than three metres and not more than 30 metres.

(2) A pedal cycle may be fitted with one or more lamps emitting a red light directly to the rear.

The need to practice for one or other cycle tour in rush hour traffic seems egoistical to me.
They dont all do that. I work in a quiet area out in the country. On weekdays, they all group up together in bunches of 10 or more, and take up the whole road. So they do move to quiet area's out of rush hour.

The fact that it now takes me 30 min to get past them means nothing to them. Last time I "hooted" one of them threw a bottle at my car., I so want my bakkie back

I have had more run-ins with cyclists than taxi drivers, honest.
Taxi drivers want to rule the road, cyclist think they own it.

I have the same gripe as every other motorist, that the vast majority of cyclist do not obey the rules of the road at all and do not understand what single file means.
When they do start to show some respect for much larger, less nimble vehicles on the road, then they will perhaps deserve some respect.

You can ride around on any weekend, mornings especially, and just follow a bunch of riders and count the transgressions, far more than taxis.
I challenge you to find a bunch that does not break any road laws.
