Personally I find cyclists a dam pain in the a$$ when driving! I feel sorry for these people, but seriously I don’t think cyclists should be on the roads. Sometimes there is hardly enough space for a car to drive and then you have to try and dodge cyclists? Not to mention that some of them think riding half way into the road is a good idea, like the chap in the story. I mean what do you expect?

I'm with you here. Had two cycling abreast ahead of me this morning, in peak traffic. They also get very upset when you hoot at them. I'm really surprised that more of them aren't killed, especially those that ride on roads such as the Delmas road and the R55.

Yeah what really gets me is how it is always the drivers fault, I mean if it is due to reckless driving that is different, but law abiding safe drivers regularly hit cyclists, but no its the drivers fault. And yeah a lot of cyclists attitudes on the roads stink. Its like "who the hell are you to be driving your car on the road?"

They piss me off also. Cycle bloody half way into the road and then it is the motorist that has to wait for a place to go past or be taken to court for "reckless driving". A lot of them are bloody arrogant also.

I would lay the blame in front of our local councils and road maintenance in general. Why don't we have dedicated cycling lanes? Europe is full of them, and they do work very well. It seems that receiving a service, is one of those things you have to fight for, especially from government and local councils.

So blaming the cyclist is easy, and sometimes warranted, but they mostly don't have a choice of where they want to cycle. The road is the only option, and if the road doesn't have a shoulder, it makes it very dangerous.

this is also a problem I'm having while driving... I've just got my learners  and I'm learning to drive, however I do get all rather nervous when there's cyclists on the road because they tend to swerve into the road. I mean, it's tough trying to stay aware of every car around you, but when these guys suddenly decide to swerve in front of you, cut across you, and have 3 riding a beast then that's not only annoys me, but also gets me to a panic :(

I hate it when two cyclists ride side by side, instead of in single file - idiots.

I don't know of a single street in Pta that has got a dedicated Cycle lane next to it. A sidewalk is not a cycle lane and you are not allowed to ride with your bike on the sidewalk. There is no other place for a cyclest to ride, so until the city counsels provide cycle lanes, you can't say anything.

We're not arguing their right to use the roads, but rather their attitude when they do. They seem to have this 'damn you' attitude towards vehicles - sort of like they know they can do what they want since you'll be the one in trouble if there's an accident.

Just drive own Zambesi road on a Saturday. There is allways a bunch cyclists riding 2 or 3 abreast. Don't you think we must arrange to open the old Pilditch sport arena every Tuesday evening and let them drive around and around for 5 or six hours. Maybe they'll keep off the roads then...

What gets me about Cyclists is they have the whole country to cycle in, but they choose to cut Joburg in two by blocking off Republic
