How did you STOP smoking?

I tried out the new Dunhill Switch when it just came out. Then I went out and got completely ****faced. And I mean completely. I had such a bad hangover that I was sick for days afterwards.

Ever since then if I just taste a cigarette I get sick all over again.

I had a similar experience, completely plastered and woke up with a PK of a hangover. I still had long hair back then and remember the smell of smoke washing from my hair down my face the next morning in the shower, that was enough to put me off for life.

Smoked for 3 years, havn't touched one for the last 9 years.

Peer pressure, many of my clients are in retail and don't permit smoking in their shops. About 12 years ago I just stopped cold turkey from a 30+/day habit, I found I coughed like crazy for the first couple of months but the cravings vanished after month one.

... picked up about 15kgs after quitting and am still to lose it all :(

I feel your pain bud. Was told a year ago by Doctors i can't drink anymore due to a condition i have. Not THAT bothered by it generally but it does suck when you with your mates or celebrating something and can't have a bit of fun with the guys... But ya, drinking and smoking defs go hand in hand! When I could still drink i'd go through 2-3 boxes in one night out

Another big thing for me was waiting when I was at varsity... waiting for bus... waiting for lift... waiting for lecture... Just could not wait without that itch to smoke. So when I started working I tried to be on the move and I bought a bike and then car to have my own transport.

I'm at the point now when I can drink without getting cravings, but the waiting is the only time when I still get the itch.

I smoked for 15 years(about 10 a day) and stopped after 3 weeks on Champix. Have not smoked for 21 months now.

I also stopped smoking a few times, all of hemlasting for anything from a year to two years, then for some reason I get into it again for a month or so and then quit again...etc, etc.
I think I will say that I have really quit when it reaches more than 2 years.

It's actually not difficult to quit, the problem is, it's not difficult to start either.

I tried the Champix - but it didn't work, mainly because I'm a twat when it comes taking medication. I really do need to stop though, and as most people who I've spoken to have told me it really works, I'll try again. It did make me nauseous during the initial phase - anyone else have that? Apparently it's supposed to change the way cigs taste, too? I had a few people tell me that, but never experienced it.

I also tend to emotionally beat myself up when I don't stop, so I think it adds to the psychology of it. I know it's mostly mental, but I reckon my body is also heavily addicted to nicotine - I've smoked for 23 years now.

I'll get a script on payday, and give it another go. This time I'll overcome the addiction and the habit for good!

P.S: also, I'm moving back to the UK this year, and fags are ****ing expensive!

So much if this. I've found that is so easy to smoke, yet so hard not to. My fiance (a non-smoker) always tells me to not be so hard on myself when I fail each time. She says I've been smoking since I was a teenager, so it's going to take time to stop something that's become second nature.

Thanks for all the advice, ideas and for sharing guys n gals. Been a busy day so haven't been able to reply to you all as much as i wanted to but Allen Carr is supposed to be great so will try that as well as look at Champix (is that spelt right??)
