How did you STOP smoking?

Woke up one night around 3am, and couldn't sleep. Went to the local garage to buy cigarettes as I had run out. The realisation set in when I tried pulling our cash from my wallet, and was mortified at the price of cigarettes alone, as I normally bought a box with random other stuff.

It then occurred to me that I could no longer throw good money down the drain, and that I had started smoking when a pack was like R2.10... and here I was swiping my debit card for close to R35, just to smoke.

Cold turkey thereafter. Once or twice had a pull here and there, but it's been over 5 years an d counting, never went back. Gained a ****load of weight, and have been dropping it ever since.

champex, for a few weeks. Made me feel like puking. Tried to half the dose. Still make me sick as a dog. After a week of more torture I quit the pills and smoking.

First time around I stopped for 3 years also Champex, the habit then never smelled bad or anything. Now I'm one of those horrible anti smokers. IT smells like shyte. Oh the first time the pills didn't make me sick either.

This time I also addressed my total social anxiety. So I addressed the part of me that wanted to smoke when I'm in situations where I wanted to freak out.

I also did it during a period of big changes ( against the advice of my doctor ). It helps me, helped the first time as well. The places and things I associated with smoking is less when I do that.

Today, 30/04/2015 @ 20:10 I killed my last cigarette. I decided earlier this week that I'd had enough. I've smoked for 23 years - that's longer than I've ever been a non-smoker.

I had downloaded the Allen Car Easy Way audio books, but had never bothered until a few days ago. No gimmicks. No gadgets. No substitute patches, gum, pills. It's about changing the way you think about smoking. And removing the reasons you do.

I've done it. I'm free. :)

The last time...10-17 years ago...stopped counting

cold turkey
every time I wanted a smoke I would pinch the skin HARD between the thumb and index finger

I myself am a non smoker, one good thing ive done with my life, probably will never start.

Problem is im subsidising a family member who dosent work and blows a budget every month on these damm expensive ciggies.

He Tried vaping, not twisp but similar chinese ones, was told by security at malls stop smoking, even though its not real fire, totally artificial.

Tried nicorette, says gives him a headache
Hates anything to do with lectures on why to quit

Hes currently 55 and been smoking since 16 a pack-pack and a half every day since......

Im now subsidizing his habit at the expense of the monthly food budget, and im very unhappy at the fact he is totally unwilling to quit, at this rate he will get a stroke/heart attack and die quickly, but so far doesnt faze him

What advice can you guys give me to try get him to quit?
I dont mind to buy him a twisp, but i need to be sure he will quit or only use twisp from now on.....

Everytime i confront him about smoking he get really angry about it, and fails to see how horrible and expensive this habit is.....

So glad I never started, just pain and suffering lies there....

Thats the problem, kind of retired now,
Still playing around with "buisness ideas"
But after 40 no job will take you......

Ive come to the conclusion its me or him, time for me to move out LONG AGO,
And this quitting smoking will happen on its own, either you eat or you smoke, cant do both.....

Just sad its had to happen this way.....

Stopped smoking cigarettes last year in October after 48 years, was smoking 60 per day, bought the twisp and now mix the liquid with half nicotine and the other half no nicotine. I have tried everything in the book but it didn't work. I have a very addictive personality
Stopped boozing over 20 years ago because I had a major problem with it and that took me five years to quit.
Hopefully will also be off the twisp by the end of the year. Saving myself about R2500.00 pm on smokes.;)

May 16th would be my first year of non smoking. I went the acupuncture route and was very skeptical at first but can confirms it works and was pretty painless

Ouch 55 is a tough age to stop. His body is probably so addicted to the cigarettes that he will need to wean off them. My dad was told by a doctor that he would probably have a heart attack if he tried to stop cold turkey! And also at that age you don't care much to change.

My best suggestion is to tell him he has a cigarette budget.

Option 1: Put that money aside and tell him whatever he doesn't spend on it goes into a kittie. Tell him the money he saves can go to whatever luxury he wants but could never afford.

Option 2: Tell him that the budget doesn't change from year to year so when prices go up he either has to smoke less or he has to smoke cheaper cigarettes - which often taste yuckier which often causes them to reconsider smoking at all!

R2500pm! Damn...that is a car installment on a more than decent 2nd hand ride.

How does he obtain cigarettes with no income?

bud , you are going to need something more potent then a twisp . consider a variable voltage / wattage battery and a better "tank" with some 24mg nicotine liquid.

head over to www.ecigssa.co.za for more info if you considering getting him a vaping device

Cold turkey worked for me. All you need is will power and motivation.
