Hi All,

This prolly has been asked plenty of times but here goes.

My son left crapberry and went HTC. Details of his contracts is a talk 75 with 100meg and 100meg night owl.

How do I cap his data usage so that he does not go OOB? I do not mind manually loading additional data but want to control the expenditure (he has ADSL at home for all his browsing needs).

AFAIK its not possible.

HTC with android? On my android I have Onavo count installed where you can define a data plan with a cap. Haven't used it for a full month yet, but it should stop or at least warn when it gets to the 100megs.

I misunderstood. I thought the OP meant capping the usage at the provider side.

That is what I meant. He has set warnings on his phone, but I thought that if he could access his VC account and set a cap there it would work out better.

Not as far as I know tbh. I don't know of a provider that allows you to set a data cap on contract data.

From VC's site:

Call/Data Limit locking is not guaranteed from a technical point of view and should be used as guidelines to manage spend on your account. If for any reason the limit is not implemented, you are still liable to pay for usage on the account.

Best way is with CLL (Call Limit Lock).

Also make sure his ALTNUM is set to your phone so you get the notification SMS's as he uses his bundle and then eventually go OOB.

Then buy Advanced data bundles for him and you won't pay a higher OOB rate.

Will this lock his phone from data only or voice and data? He has a ton of free minutes and it's the data that concerns me.

i am using a android phone, and there is ton of app can stop internet after reaching limit, but the problem is they can't identify the night owl and normal bundle...

Last time I looked, it was a hard lock on everything. Even if you had free minutes or an SMS bundle you couldn't use them.

@Jannie: Is it still like this?

CLL is set at a rand level, irrespective of the services.

VD, can you check what happens with free minutes and CLL?

There was a thread a while back where someone had a weekender contract and spend cap on their account. Once the spend cap was hit they could no longer make calls, even during off-peak hours where they had plenty of minutes left.

I don't know if this scenario has been fixed.
