How do I confirm that my old work e-mail is deactivated?

I have listed below 2 instances whereby I have sent test mails to my old work e-mail.
When I send to a dummy address, it displays: "user invalid"
When I send to my old work address, it does not display this message, but everything else looks similar.

Please advise how I can confirm this?

thanks

Could be ABC replying that the user is invalid....if you do not receive anything then it's still active...so you should be fine.

Instruct your ex-company in writing to put a forward on the email to your current address or to close your email address.

Tell them that you want people trying to communicate with you to know that your email address has changed, either by being forwarded to another email address, or by receiving the message that the email address is invalid. Hint that failure to implement these steps is tantamount to impersonation, where, because of their inaction, people trying to contact you may think that you are ignoring them, causing damage to your reputation.

Then, keep on testing your email address and pestering them to fix it when you do not receive the email address does not exist error, or if your test email is not forwarded.

However, in reality, you have probably signed something at the ex-company that indicates that the email address is 100% that company's resource, and you do not have any say over it's use, now or in the future. Even if they impersonate you.

Impersonation is one of my reasons for refusing to sign such ludicrous company policy documents.

Well, your old company might also have a catch all account active. So whatever is emailed to that domain is sent to the catchall account. This is to combat misspelled names in email addys.
So it is entirely possible that your email account is cancelled and your mail is being sent to a catchall account.

Besides, its the company's right to keep your email account active as long as they want... you should not have been using it for personal purposes anyway.

That's why you should use your work email account for work purposes ONLY. Get a Gmail account for personal use - GMail is forever, but working at a company isn't.

Lol. No way. You have no right to use company resources for your person use. So any correspondence via your work email should be work related and therefore have everything to do with them.
They have every right to intercept, redirect and read any email sent to your work email. It a work tool. Its easy enough to get a personal gmail account or whatever, just do that and use it for your personal stuff.
And if gmail is blocked, its for a reason.

thanks, good points highlighted.
My main concern is that theey should not impersonate my mail address to approach clients / vendors / suppliers with the intent of ruining my reputation.
I have been using Gmail for the last 5 years, so all my personal mail is never sent to my work address.

judging from the 2 comparisons, the e-mail address has not been deleted but is merely deactivated in some way.
