How do i know if i need more memory?

thats what i am just reading now on google now i know why i get shocked on my pc case when i touch it, then i just reboot and check the ram in My Computer to see if its picked up?

simplest is; shutdown, pull out cord, and begin. (i prefer to switch of at wall too, then replug and on at wall)

ok if i run SIW on my pc it says DDR 256 and a 128 do i change both or just one?

At a guess even if you find DDR chips, the max will probably total 512 MB.

In which case it's time to replace the M/board, cpu and memory.

i might be able to get a refurbished pentium 4 for R800 but i don't know how much memory it has, would that be an option for me cause its only my music and movies i watch sometimes on my pc or its on the forum.

I'm not sure how you refurbish a motherboard...

You can get a new dual core celeron, motherboard and 2 Gig memory for under 2 grand, so I really wouldn't spend R800 on a P4.

This sounds like original DDR memory - could be hard to find.

my grandfather was at the airport when he noticed a flying bird had dropped something, when he checked it out it appeared to be a stick of 256mb ddr ram in a plastic sleeve

i told him to throw it away like the bird did :D
