How do I use MTN SIM on a Vodafone E272?

Better check the CD first, mine wouldn't load at all!
Doesn't the CD only contain the Mac software?
Can't you backup the firmware from the device?
No. Remember the firmware (the software that the device runs) is different from the virtual CD-ROM device (that contains the software that gets installed to your PC) and are updated separately.

can't i install the software from a exe rather than the virtual CD Device first, and use that rather?

where do I get the Huawei Mobile Partner Software? Huawei's site?
link pretty Pah-lease??
AFAIK there's no software for the E272 on Huawei's site. The safest would be to find someone with an E220 who has installed the Huawei Mobile Connect and copy the installer from their virtual CD-ROM drive.

Alternatively. download the E220 version of Huawei Mobile Partner, extract the ISO CD-ROM image from the executable file, then extract the installer from there.

I'm willing to bet a case of beer that you can install the E220 Huawei Mobile Partner on an E272, but I'm not willing to bet the cost of an E272. :D

"Alternatively. download the E220 version of Huawei Mobile Partner"

where? link pls, i seem to be getting results on FLASHING...i just want to try the E220 software installed, for now...

I'll upload the Huawei Mobile Partner installer and PM you the link.

thanx! i really hope it works as mtn's site is useless, but ive seen, that their network rocks!

Doh!, you are right, I browsed the manual too quickly!

In mine it mentions an exe for use on "previous versions of windows" called VMC_PBStarter.exe. I imagine that that could either be a complete copy of what's on the virtual CD or something more primitive. I wouldn't experiment at this stage.

I don't see how you need it if the device is loading it anyway ... Do you see the MTN network at all? Signal strength meter ??

- MTN not in list
- Can't create my own APN Settings - well i can, but it wont let me select anything other than Vodacom with the MTN sim inserted, can only configure with a VC SIM.
- Manual connection through windows don't work...
- There is NO signal/strength meter, it just says: "Wrong Sim inserted"

Vodafone Drivers are Def. Biased

I need vanilla drivers, these Vodafone Drivers only like the taste of Vodascum, and spits at my MTN SIM!

PS: Thanx helpin' out guys, I really appreciate it!

PS2: I'm starting to get Scared of MTN's 7.2 MB/s, my CAP is melting away like Icecream on a hot sunday!

I'm going to take an educated guess here & say that the UK version of VMC Lite has a chance of working because it seems to be showing me more than Keeper is getting on the 'local' version. I'll know tomorrow when I get this thing unlocked. [There is less risk in loading an official Voda release too]

OK. progress on the E272 Subject, using the "Mobile Partner" Software from ginggs..thanx man! kudos.

What I see with the Mobile Partner Software is that it work independently from the vodafone software - they cant work together, as only one can access the Device...
THIS IS GOOD!

It does find the MTN Network, and also shows the signal Strength (95%)
I can't however, connect... but neither can i with the vodacom SIM - So it looks like it's just the settings which I need to configure properly.

gonna browse the sites a bit, and see what I can find...

So guys, If you're interested in buying an Vodafone E272 for use on the MTN Network (Dont think MTN sell them) , hang on for a few days, till someone can get it working...
keep ur eye on the thread

Mobile Partner seems like a good bet.

In mobile partner you have to create a profile before you can connect.

I did - but what are the settings for the IP / DNS / Etc ?

I cant seem to find any technical information for these settings on the MTN website. :(

Gonna try loading E220 MTN Dashboard tonite, but good a low expectation that it will work (pick up the device, as it's designed for the E220...)

My Bet's on the MP Software, i'm also sure i can get it to work somehow...
Wish me luck anyway...

I Did, still wouldn't work.....
but i couldn't even get the Vodacom sim to work either so clearly i'm doing something wrong

It basically tries to connect and gives and error: um...somthing like "Host could not respond / could not connect to host" or something or other....

it does however display my signal strength, and pick up the 3 networks...

The answer is always the easiest, most logical explination...

i think thats where the problem lies, as i have not yet tested it with any other modem - forgive me :p but i AM new to MTN... so used to Vodacoms *111# having all the options, while MTN has all this weird lingo around basic features...
anyways - Someone told me I don't need to activate anything, but OK, How do I activate it then? - will have to do it tonite though, as it's at home...

Thanx For the input man

Thanx bru, will enable it tonite! can't wait as at work it seems we have reached our Adsl CAP heh, will reply if i get it to work, or even if i dont =)
