When i finished high school, my father bought a VW Volksie for me and put it in my name. The car was able to drive and used it for a short period of time to varsity and back. The vehicle has pretty much rotted away and I have been paying the license fees every year for a car that just stands.

How do I go about having the car scrapped?

I am assuming its at the licensing department but is there anything specific I have to take with me? Is there anywhere but a licensing department I can take it to in order to get this done?

Does scrapping it mean I will not have to pay the license fees every year? I have no intention of getting it back on the road.

TIA!

If the car is on your name, just take your ID and RC1 form to the licencing department and ask them which form to fill out. You'll pay a scrapping fee, and then done. They'll give you confrimation of it being scrapped.

You need to take the registration papers / Logbook and ID to the licensing department then fill in the correct form and submit it.
They will then provide a new registration paper that states the vehicle has been taken off the road and you will no longer have to pay for the licensing.

You can of course also sell it to someone but in that case go and get the sellers form and make sure the buyer completes the correct section and submit it yourself to the licensing dept to avoid any issues

You will only pay scrapping fees if the vehicle is unlicensed. If it has just been licensed recently make sure you apply for a refund.

Thanks. Begrudgingly paid R500 for license fees last year (was a little overdue). Got the notice in the post last week and I don't want to have to keep forking out that cash for it.

Lets hope the queue moves swiftly tomorrow. Will be there in the chilly weather as soon as they open the doors.

Did the early morning thing.

Need to take copies of the original papers and an affidavit from saps.

If i didn't have the original papers, I would have to apply for them again. Costs R280 and need to wait 3 days before I can come back to do the scrapping.

Aaaargh!

Park it outside your local township on Friday evening, wait till Monday when the police come to inform you that your vehicle was involved in a robbery, claim insurance....... Wait for it... Wait for it.....
