OK, that's pretty much what I wanted to ask...! Be kind with your answers... I had to really muster up some courage to ask probably the most dumb Q on this forum. As the saying goes "no such thing as I stupid question." I don't agree with that BTW. :D

Cue stupid answer:

Keep them in the fridge, as with all fruit.

Take it out of the fridge to ripen faster.

Putting them in the fridge makes the skin go black. The inside stays white though.
And no, I'm not being racist.

Of course you gotta make sure that everyone understands! :D Thanks, I kept them out of the fridge because of the black skin... but I didn't realize that the inside stays white. I have seen some packaging discourage fridge storage... From the GOOD OLD Woolies... Jaa nee.

What do you want to use them for?

Good question...just try eat them twice a day maybe? 1 before work and 1 after?

No special use. I HATE throwing food away. I enjoy them a lot but hate them at the slight sign of "softening" :D... Half of the bag I usual buy gets thrown away. No, cant buy smaller, already buying smallest package.

Started doing that recently. I usually take two to work, 1 for around 10am and another 1 just before gym. We usually buy them on Sundays (no time for midweek shopping), but I really hate how they are about Tues afternoon. I always go for "green" when doing shopping.

Turn the left-over ones into banana bread. Doesn't get much better than that.

Trick is to pick a pack that has some ready for immediate eating and some that will be ready later in the week. Of course sometimes you buy a pack and it's frot in 2 days

Or... freeze them when you buy them, and turn two of them into smoothies each morning (with yoghurt, milk, honey, a dash of cinnamon, and if you gym, a scoop of protein, and if you're worried about bowel cancer, a scoop of bran). Delicious.

+1. you can freeze them. the skin will go black, but no probs.
then just take them out of the freezer, peel them before defrosting and use the insides.
should take about 10 min to defrost.

Then leave to ripen at room temp, if they get a bit too ripe for for plain eating then peel them and either wrap each one in clingrap and freeze, or mash and freeze. Defrost when needed to make a banana bread or smoothie.

Alternatively use them faster, in a smoothie, or with yoghurt or muesli as opposed to just eating 1 a day.

Don't keep them near any sunlight and if you want other fruit to stay fresh keep bananas separate.

Snap. Good to see I'm not the only health freak out there who doesn't like wasting. :p
