Closed fireplace between the TV lounge, dining room kitchen, gas heater in a similar area, underfloor heating in our youngest sons room, wall panel heater in our oldest sons room, wall panel heater and underfloor heating in our bedroom but we also have an AC unit and electric blanket in our bedroom and underfloor heating in our oldest sons bedroom that can be used. I have a wall panel heater that needs to go in to our youngest sons room which will use a few less Watts than his underfloor heating.

Since there has been some thread necro'ing...

Largely the same as last year, got the wall panel heater up in our youngest sons room, like his older brothers room both are now handled by Sonoff TH16's. We still use the underfloor heating in his room though as it is the coldest bedroom in the house...

As safe as you make them.
Regularly inspect hoses and seals, and make sure you buy a reputable brand.

SA houses aren't sealed enough for oxygen/CO to be a problem in most cases.
what is a reputable brand? as I see many Chinese ones on the market but never sure how safe they are.

Cadac and Alva are quite good quality.
and used versions?
also gas bottles, how much do those cost? and again is there similar brands one needs to keep to,
refills? or just buy new ones all the time?

sorry I'm asking dumb questions, just never felt cold like the Western cape up in JHB,
or more precisely never lived at ground level before was always in apartments where heat naturally rises

electric blanket and regular old blanket,

did want to ask regarding gas heaters, how safe are they?

I used to do something similar, but its not very good.

Instead I learned this trick from an old gf: You take your bed, then add the linen as usual. Then over that you throw a fluffy blanket, add yourself and then on top of that goes your duvet.

It doesn't matter how cold it gets, the fluffy blanket will just absorb all your heat instead of leaking it out.

tried that makes me sweat too much and wake up feeling too hot in the middle of the night.
so far the electric blanet seems to work well, although it shifts too much, maybe I need to tie it down better?

I would be wary of used heaters. No need to buy the expensive cylinders with brand names as you would need to have them refilled as you would want it back each time. You rather pay a deposit at one of the gas exchange guys for a 9kg cylinder and just exchange it for a full one when empty. Also easy if you need gas at 11pm at night then you can just exchange it at the local garage. Not sure what the deposit is these days.

final dumb question from me,

how long does the gas last, or is it all depending on how open you make the regulator?
so if you open only a little bit it will still warm a decent sized room, but wont chow through all the gas in a day,

I mean whats a realistic timeframe? a week?

Many people don't realise that most modern spring matresses only have springs inside with an outer fabric covering. If it's very cold the cold rises from underneath through the matress so you are warm from above with your blankets but freezing underneath.

Depending on the size of the heater and how much you open the gas it could last maybe 2 weeks if used only for a few hours a day.

There's nothing like body heat.

This thing called clothes, you put on layers. At night we use layers for blankets.
