How do you like your online banking security?

Most hacks nowadays work around the keypads and keygens so they are pretty much useless. All those scam emails get around all that security.
About the only thing that really works is the Rapport software, I heard from some one who works in internet banking security that it saves the bank (and customers) about R100 000 per month.

I must admit that when that software tried to install I was very suspicious and I think that they did little or nothing to inform customers about it but it definitely works.

I guess that anything that stops your computer from working would be 100% effective in stopping the keyloggers, not so ???

I would prefer a more effective approach that keeps my computer in running order.

How does it stop your pc working ? I think you have things that you need to look at.
Its only ever popped up once for me.
Actually form what I have heard it only pops up when you are doing something that could be a hazard to your security... perhaps you need to take a look at that.

EDIT: Oh and I heard that several other banks are looking at pushing it to customers.

The popup is a major hassle, however, but that's just agressive and poorly conceived marketing.

Installing that junk is probably the cheapest way for Standard Bank to try and address their security shortcomings, so that is why they have done it.

It must be problematic with certain configurations then.

Runs absolutely flawlessly on my Win 7 machine and my Mac.

Not saying that it doesn't have issues, but absolutely none that I've ever experienced.
 
I think Capitec have to be the most secure one.

You need your username and password, then the random dongle password.
There is also a photo of yourself on their website.
So no phishing site is going to be able to get anything out of you.

ABSA are reasonably secure and their internet banking is good.
A phishing site will be able to rob you if you're not savvy.

These phishing sites are getting quite sophisticated these days. I don't think it's keyloggers you have to worry about anymore! :eek:
 
Due to the way Winsows messanging works the mouse click keyboard provides a false sense of security. It is trivial to determine which image you click on.

I don't agree, easy to tell these sites. Keyloggers are the main problem.

Random key generators or on-screen keypads (all the decent ones have random number positions) are the best solution.

Crappy software that messes up your computer is not the answer.
 
Let's just say that as an experiment I coded a small app to harvest banking details to show my wife how easy it is.

If an attacker can execute code on your PC you're screwed.
 
I like ABSA's sure-phrase feature, i guess mainly for anti phishing so you know you're on ABSA's site.

However, I totally agree, ABSA really annoy me and I'm thinking of changing. Possibly to Nedbank, they just seem more professional.

No one uses keylogers any more, all the fraud at the moment is done via those fake emails you get. They send you to a fake site and redirect all the info.

I'm not trying to say that Rapport is any good at all, just that it actually defends against the current attacks.

But then they need a way to intercept your sms & if it's absa they also need to find a way to get hold of your full password.
Unless you're too gullible, in which case it doesn't matter how much security there is.

Rapport secures the connection to Standard Bank as soon as you log in. You can see it in your taskbar.
