Trips longer than 300km.

I personally try break them down into 200km bites. And then try and maintain a speed of 120km/h (road willing of course). Sometimes of course 200km bites are not possible, so I choose a destination that is in a similar range.

Dim the lights, put on some relaxing music and make sure you have an experienced sitter in case the neon spiders attack.

i like to do 420 at a time

Live in a small country, don't have such large journeys

No need to make it interresting :o

I LOVE driving long distance. I have no idea why I just love it.

Try driving blindfolded ...... I am sure your journey will be interesting, you might even get to meet some health care workers ............ no wait .......... they are on strike :)

We go nekkid and see who notice.

Jaaaaaa Mila, trust jou! :p

My average trips for work meetings are anywhere between 400 and 900km a day. I rarely go over 120km, but I listen to audiobooks all the time. It's a welcome distraction and you can still hear everything around you. It keeps you alert and tuned into the story and you don't really suffer from drivers fatigue.

300 km is just a drive, I would say long distance is over 1000km in a day.

If I'm driving alone, I'll stop every hour or so and look at the scenery and go for a short walk.

We had a 3000km trip to CPT recently to a SWC game...how we made it interesting is to tell jokes...and YOU MUST tell jokes or you put out of the car...seeing people who are not funny try and be funny is the funniest ssshhh on the N1.

We also told life stories etc.

Sex stories.
Who got game
Normal guy stuff.

We also looked at the trip computer and its estimation on when we'll run out of petrol, and we'd drive past the petrol station and see if the computer is telling the truth...obviusly we had a 5l bottle of petrol as backup...fun times...Ilove raodtrips...

Or...if you have a fast car...there's nothing like putting your car to the limits on road trips...and act like jeremy Clarkson by reviewing it...love it!

That is a great idea!! Never thought of the audio books. Thanx. :D

Make lovely road trip CDs and listen to fun music. Stop off every 250kms... wake yourself up!!

This is actually on the back of my making trips close to 1000km on a quarterly/semi annual basis.

In your terms, a Jhb - Dbn journey is just a trip?

Yep.

I drove over 300 km last Sunday when I went to see Postberg Nature reserve.

I did a long distance one from Luderitz to Cape Town in a single day earlier this year.
Had my gf with so didn't get too bored.
We took turns driving and that makes things easier.

When I do a long distance one alone, I normally work out on a spreadsheet where I'm going to stop, distances, speeds, times etc.
Like a pilot's navigation log.
Then I try to stick to those times.
Always make the first leg of the trip at least 2 hours long, then stop every 45 - 90 minutes after that, to strech the legs.

JHB - Dbn is just a trip... not one thats done often but get in the car and drive... decent music and a stop for lunch... nothing else.

Trip to CPT on the other hand... well that includes many stops and such.
