How does a chip upgrade work

Be careful of OBD II chips, especially in low pressure turbo diesels like the 2.5 D4D. Had to do the injectors on our Hilux SRX because the previous owner used a "universal OBD II" chip in the bakkie.

If overfuelled, over time the manifold will warp and then exhaust gases leak out, etc.

Hardley the weak link. Turbo manifolds should be made with extra tolerances. And what is this overfueled nonsense you speak of? I've never heard of it before in my life. The closest thing I have heard of is running rich or lean. In the case of running rich, I don't see how that can cause any damage besides building up a lot of muck. Running lean is what causes the over heating and long term issues. Hardley fits the term "overfuelling."

so if you chip the car do you have to change the air filters and exhaust systems ? and in the case of turbo cars upgrade the intercooler ?

Depends how aggressive the new map is.

so how does one find a good remap ? and who are the guys to go to if one is planning to get it done ? (im noob in modding so forgive the ignorance)

Don't waste your money remapping your 86

Yeah i never bought the opel. Because i hate opel.

Get Revo when it's on special, it's about R4000 but should come with the Revo switch, you can switch off the software when you send it for service.
But from experience vw don't give issues with the warranty.

Cool thanks, will keep an eye out for specials.

It's a normally-aspirated car, remap won't do anything, marginal improvements at best.

Yup. Only worth doing if you do major hardware mods like reprofiled cams or injector upgrades

 so these people showing a 12kW increase in power at the wheels with these chips on a dyno isnt worth it ?
