How DStv will fight back against Netflix

Cut your prices in 3, that's the only way. There is nothing I want to watch that is worth R900+ a month, not even everything together, not even close, would rather go without it.
 
they have something good in supersport, its spoken of highly abroad. you get espn+ for $5/month or something.

they need to keep up
 
What DSTV does not seem to understand it that many user cancelled DSTV before even Netflix came on the market. It's not only about competing against Neftlix, it's about improving the product. Netflix is just the nail in the coffin.

DSTV: Like it or not, you are absolete - same as a landline. As an investor in DSTV I would have sold all my shares.

If there was a sports channel streaming rugby and cricket then DSTV would lose all clients. Let's face it: Who can afford R12.000 per year to watch TV?? That's the cost for monthly food shopping for a family in Germany!
 
I'm not interested, as has been mentioned, Multichoice has burned bridges. With consistent increases in subscription prices and very little improvement in content, I don't miss it one bit. Not to mention the high costs for a device which barely works, the hassle of installation and the "extra fees" you have to pay just to allow this "fancy" device to do it's job.

Multichoice has been kicking this horse for far too long and now time and technology has caught up with them. The mere fact that I can get an uncapped fibre connection and a netflix subscription for less than what DSTV would cost me a month is a no-brainer. Not to mention, now I have uncapped internet access too, on top of my video entertainment.

Netflix is also producing it's own content, and beginning to open it's own studios. I've watched many Netflix exclusives and they're actually damn good. The only way Multichoice stands any chance of becoming in any way competitive would be to make the exclusive sport content available via streaming. But I don't watch it anyway, so it makes no difference in my life.

I think the only thing keeping Multichoice out of liquidation is the fact that not everyone has access to fibre just yet. But the tables are turning, fibre is rolling out fast, and it won't be long until the smell of "Humble Pie" starts to fill the air which Multichoice has always had this "monopoly" on.
 
What's with all the Naspers ads these days? MyBB should just have a huge SPONSORED by NASPERS on the top of their website.

It's not DSTV vs Netflix, it's DSTV vs the internet. Sooner they accept that, the sooner they can start making funeral arrangements.
 
Been couple of months now using the DSTV now app on ATV4 and the quality hasnt improved at all.
I have 40 inch TV , 20Mb VDSL and the quality sucks balls compared to Netflix and every other streaming even shows from NZ and Australia.
 
I wonder if their CEO etc. have ever read one of these dstv threads. Can never quite figure out if they know what the problem is but are unwilling / unable to change, or whether they have no idea what the problem is and think it's everyone else's fault.

The decline started years before Netflix was available in SA.

Reading on forums is beneath them... if the actually do read, they usually read crappy books by the same of their kind i.e. books written by rich fukkers like themselves about all kinds of crap to make more $$$.
Either way, not one Fukkk given by them... I am convinced that when you become rich your brain becomes atrophied.
 
My parents who can absolutely afford to pay the premium price reduced to compact because of content. They come watch the rugby and so forth by one of our houses (Not that we have DSTV :p). They even considering cancelling compact now. My dad who watches news whole day has discovered that he can get the same news content on apps on his smart phone. They talking about getting internet and going the streaming route. The compact package is full of Nigerian content. My brother reduced his to compact as well just so that his kids can have something to watch but that didn't last long because of Youtube.

They missing the boat by a good few nautical miles. My kids don't even know what DSTV is. They grew up streaming.

Netflix is not all to blame. DSTV should look at the crap on movie channels and the repeats and no choice for choosing ones own channels. On top of that are the informercials for all the good deeds DSTV does in africa ( while neglecting the local market needs ) , and too much of adverts. I will still not support DSTV for any new services and stick to Netflix.
 
Really, Whenever I am getting my credit back which they stole then I cancel my subscription. Fortunately I am on the lowest package.
