and Im not talking Prince William and Kate here

im talking average earner, drive a polo, eat at primi etc etc

Rather work on number of guests.

100 guests = +- R60-80k I would imagine...

It depends on venue, guests, food being served etc... When we were looking back in 2009 for 50 people it was R60k for a smallish venue and decent food.

That might cover the reception but then you have little things like the dress, suits, photographer, florist, minister . . .

R60,000 ish for 80ppl
That seems a bit excessive. I've seen on average that it works out to R150 - R200 per person for the venue + food, excluding decor, photographer and DJ for the reception. Plus another R30k for the standard Mauritius honeymoon.

A marrige certificate is dirt cheap at dept of home affairs. Dont know the exact price but wont be more than a 100 bucks. So thats R100 if she really loves you, the less she loves you the more expensive it becomes!

Oh yeah forgot those, the photographer starts at R5k, the florist depending on flowers can be quite a bit too, there is the decorator as well, you'd think a minister would be cheap. We were eventually going to have it at a small country club my aunt and uncle booked out for us, and it still came to R25k for about 25 people. Eventually I was like stuff this and we eloped and the monies went to honeymoon and house.

Then it's wedding dress, bride and groom rings, invites, photographer, DJ, draping and decor... Our food is R220 a head and it was one of the more reasonable places.

Getting married in jan next year at a venue that provides everything. 200 guests @ R200 per head. This obviously excludes all other aspects besides venue, food and a car guard haha...

Half of all your stuff after the divorce :(

Ours was a DIY wedding.

Wife made her own + bridesmaid dresses

Food was made by stepmother

We did the decorating etc ourselves

Negative so soon? :p

I got one problem with that - if the one half doesn't want to bring his/her side (plain lazy, does nothing), then want half of the other half's stuff after the divorce...

gonna need a ring for that lol

wow this all seems so expensive

:(
It will be but you can chill, propose and ask her what her expectations for the wedding are and then you can budget for it. (I have never been married,im way to young but I wish you the best of luck).

Yeah it quickly becomes a very costly affair, where you're looking at R100k+. Fortunately my folks have offered to help us out if we come up short, so I'll have to figure out a way to pay them back.

The rings are fortunately not an issue. I had her engagement ring made by a guy at Jewel City. It came out to about R7.5k for 18ct white gold, .35ct main diamond, with 3x 0.05ct diamond on each side of the main diamond. Something using similar materials cost about R15k at the usual mall jewellery stores.
