We got married on 19 March. I think we spent in excess of R80k.

100 guests, food was R220pp. Included photographer, dress, suit, flowers, decor, etc.

Honeymoon was a gift which helped A LOT!

Thing is, both our parents doesn't have that kind of money, we paid for everything ourselves. Ouch.

We had 120 people and got away with R35K.

Had lots of friends and family help in their specific fields (Photography, decorating e.t.c.).

:-/ all the places we looked at charge between R20,000 and R40,000 just for venue hire, excluding food, photographer, dress, etc, etc.

I got one problem with that - if the one half doesn't want to bring his/her side (plain lazy, does nothing), then want half of the other half's stuff after the divorce...

Unfortunately it doesn't matter whether or not you have a problem with it. What really matters is whether or not the judge has a problem with it. :D

That big diamond ring comes out to atleast 3 times your monthly salary
Depends on where you shop mate. At one of the retail stores you could easily piss away that amount of money. If you have it made then it works out to much less.

This is so depressing. I struggle to get by as it is. How will I ever be able to afford a wedding. :(

Yeah it quickly becomes a very costly affair, where you're looking at R100k+. Fortunately my folks have offered to help us out if we come up short, so I'll have to figure out a way to pay them back.

The rings are fortunately not an issue. I had her engagement ring made by a guy at Jewel City. It came out to about R7.5k for 18ct white gold, .35ct main diamond, with 3x 0.05ct diamond on each side of the main diamond. Something using similar materials cost about R15k at the usual mall jewellery stores.

Got ours from NWJ during their half price sale... and luckily my fiance's fingers are tiny so bulky rings don't suit her.

Having gotten married last year in December. My advice is setup a budget and work towards it otherwise it can spiral out of control

ring cost me R30k. I earn more than that a month so the 3x or 2x your salary theory doesn't always hold true... buy what you can afford, and never live beyond your means!

Our small wedding would cost about R100K today - we hired out an entire venue on a wine farm (3 function areas), 40 guests and renting a house for some of them. It was rather a cheap wedding as we still had R30K change afterwards.

My wife is a hairstylist and the average dream wedding in the Cape is now hitting R100K-R200K with a local Cape honeymoon.

Just to give you an idea, our venue is now R30K for just one venue. Hair & makeup can cost R5K for the bride & co. Dominee can cost R1K. Dress can cost R10K-20K. etc etc etc

She did one wedding that cost R500K in Stellies. The couple even had some royalty attend. Their marriage lasted 4yrs

I rather have a low budget wedding and be happy than spend R500k (even though I cant) and end up getting divorced

We hired a Chapel and a hall (with lots of outside and inside space) on a plot/Lodge. Including the food, emergency generator tables/chairs/covers etc it cost about R20K.

Rest went into the pastor and other stuff.

Don't wanna know... :D

Honeymoon can be well over 50k too...

I was hesitant on posting this thread because of this kind of response. Did you not read that I'm an average earner?

R50k for a honeymoon is totally uncalled for. Its not necessary at all unless you really trying to make up for a lack of something else (love?) OR you got money falling out your bumhole OR your love language is gifts or something
