I want to test my citi just so i know how far exactly but was wondering how far other cars go.

The reserve light on my 2.0 Polo comes on when the onboard comp indicates that there's about 50km of fuel left in my tank. It would depend on your driving style though - I average about 8.5 - 9 l/100km, which is relatively high.

Mine doesn't have a reserve light.:o Think its about 6-10L after the needle hits zero. Haven't tested how many km that is.

On BMWs the warning light point changes. Highway ~120km left. Urban 50km left. I guess thats to compensate for bigger distances between refill opportunities on highways.

It's because your fuel consumption figures change between highway and urban.

how does yr car know it's on a highway?

Petrol gauge has been broken for years but I do get a 50km warning light.

It isn't advisable to delay filling up because the petrol at the bottom of the tank isn't so healthy for your engine.

The petrol at the 'bottom' of the tank gets used up first.

And how is it not healthy? What causes it to deteriorate? At some point or another it will be used up so I'm having a hard time working out how it wouldn't have an effect anyway, if the quality did differ.

I always get a bit nervous running the car till it stops but it's certainly something that's useful to know about every car you own :D At least you have a feel for it then.

It's more likely to have a build-up of contaminants, which sink to the bottom. You get a concentration of it after a while.

dude that is high.. i could possibly squeeze 80-90 km out of the reserve on the highway.

the polo tank is 45l incl reserve of about 7l if memory serves my correctly..im getting old

TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY..YIPPEEEEee:D

It varies by speed obviously...but I can go about 50 - 60km's more on my reserve/light on...

With my Mazda Etude 1.6 iE I get about 150km after the reserve light comes on. :wtf:
The light comes on at about 550km which is too soon IMO.

It gets about 700km on a 55 litre tank in peak traffic between PTA and JHB although I only drive to 650km before filling up.
On long distance trips I get 750km to 800km to the tank.
