Yeah, and when they get bonuses for good work, they’ll just buy themselves motorbikes and drive off into the sunset.Recruit high achievers, why? Lazy people are best for the job since they’ll find the quickest way to get it done. Not to mention that “high achievers” are generally socially stunted which makes them difficult people to work with.
I know that if you ask certain universities for transcripts, they will tell you to get them from MIE. Perhaps that is why they did not have to ask you?I was vetted by MIE once you have to sign and accept a lot of forms, so they can invade into your personal detials. They did the background check (phoned the work referees) and checked if my drivers and qualifications were valid. They didnt ask anything about transcripts.
Had a WTF moment when a place using MIE refused my transcript.I know that if you ask certain universities for transcripts, they will tell you to get them from MIE. Perhaps that is why they did not have to ask you?
You know that uni marks and actual work/work ethics are quite different? Are you trying to hire fresh out of college juniors or something? Your marks don't mean much in most business environments unless you're trying to do something like HPC and at that point you're looking at masters/doctoral students usually, which means you look at their thesis and not at their marks.I'm an employer planning to higher a few technical staff soon. Most (if not all) will require a degree but I would like to recruit high achievers. My concern is desperate job hunters can run a correction pen (digitally) on an academic transcript and there's no way I'd be able to find out. So I've been thinking of looking at vetting options locally.
Seems like MIE is the recruitment industry standard in our country but from what I've read they only check if a person has the supposed degree with no inclusion of academic records. Furthermore they don't support some big institutions in Gauteng like Wits and UJ, which is inconvenient considering I'm based in Joburg.
I sent MIE an email inquiring a bit more on their procedures but they haven't responded on to my email in 2 days now. I'm puzzled as to why they don't have a FAQ page.
So, can someone with experience working with the organisation MIE clarify on how they do qualification verifications? And if possible please suggest other companies that do similarly. I'm aware SAQA exists but they apparently have a slow process and they only give binary results as well.
Much appreciated, friends and compatriots.
The last two companies I’ve worked at have the FBI run a check on new employees. My current job required submitting fingerprints and such too.You know that uni marks and actual work/work ethics are quite different? Are you trying to hire fresh out of college juniors or something? You doing a check like that would make me avoid working for your company because I'd be very worried about a company that has that little trust in employees, sounds like it would end up being a toxic work environment.
Current job at a small software company with over a billion rand yearly revenue, I had one culture fit interview, one technical interview, and that's it. They looked that I had a degree, as long as completed, didn't really care, way of thinking in technical interview was more important than marks you'd have.
There's a difference in regards to where you're working, if OP was in the same field offering the same salary levels, sure (and I would hazard a guess that it's part of the operating requirements at stock exchanges/major banks), but I would bet good money based on the OP that they're definitely not in that field if they need advice for it.The last two companies I’ve worked at have the FBI run a check on new employees. Yup, the fingerprints are a requirement due to being in finance, but not the other checks. I agree with the above, I’m just noting that these are done as a matter of course, because at the end of the day, most new hires are essentially strangers. There's a difference in regards to where you're working, if OP was in the same field offering the same salary levels, sure (and I would hazard a guess that it's part of the operating requirements at stock exchanges/major banks), but I would bet good money based on the OP that they're definitely not in that field if they need advice for it.
They verify qualifications with the institution the person claims to have gotten from.I think it's because the certificate has a qualification number attached it that helps with checking archives on NQR and SAQA. Most academic transcripts do not have that.
