How I saved between R600-1200 a month

So today I figured, my MTN contract expired in April. I might as well mosey on over to check out what I can do to downgrade as I don't want to pay the R420 odd a month anymore (excluding sms's and whatever else I use it for like sometimes data)

I saw they have these AnyTime Packages. Pretty straight forward, I figured I'd take the Anytime 50 option for R50 a month. So she's like "okay and which cellphone do you want with it" and I'm like "Nope, have my iPhone thanks"

... So she tells me I can then get the Anytime 200 option and only pay R65. For R200 worth of anytime minutes with like 25 sms'es included. I took the top up option so I won't go over my minutes and spend more than I need to...

I'm seriously kicking my ass for not "upgrading" in April when I had the chance and save +- (on average) R900 a month in costs.

So for the next 24 months I'm paying R65 for a R200 contract. More than I need at this stage.

Am I thrifty or what... :D
 
The best thing here is that, though you won't use all that on average, it rolls over.

Rollover rocks. For the odd month when you need it (on holiday or something) you can go wild and use up all the accumulated airtime.

I got same 200 Anytime package, and am sitting on about R600 airtime:D

Can they still screw up your billing with those contracts?
I've been on Pay as u go for more than 10 years, don't like contracts.
 
I did something similar- paid R600 once off for R100 + 25 sms's per month for 2 years (Works out to R25 p/m) for my secondary phone :)
