Hey guys

I'm on HomeDSL512 and on Wendsday requested an upgrade to 1Mbit from Telkom. They told me it'd be done within 48 hours and i'm still getting 52KB/s speeds from http://www.telkom.co.za/minisites/dsl/speed.html

It's not that I'm impatient, I'd just like to know what's going on;
How long did it take for you guys to get upgraded?
What number can I phone that's open 24/7 to ask them if they've forgotten?
etc..

thx okes,

Hi Fragtion

10 days and counting... Will post when it is eventually done.

RPM

I gave up after a week and cancelled my order. It wasn't the waiting per se but the ineptitude of everyone I spoke to.

I was one of the lucky one's - ordered the day it was released, and it was activated by the next day. I'm in Rondebosch, Cape Town - not sure if it's exchange related.

Well actually, Telkom gave me alot of **** when I ordered because I had this male callcenter person telling me "Sorry Sir only the lineholder may place an order" on Wendsday (which i suppose is understandable for security reasons) despite the fact that I managed to place an order with another woman on Tuesday perfectly fine without that problem, only to find out on the Wendsday from the male dude that "No order was placed"... so eventually i got my dad to do it anyway and the following day I call them and "No order has been placed for an upgrade to 1024k upgrade". So i asked them to do it and once again I got "Sorry Sir only the lineholder may place an order". So I shat on them and they did it (this was on thursday afternoon). "Your line will be upgraded within 24-48 hours".
Nothing.

We'll have to see if it gets done on Monday or it's back to calling them up day after day only to find that "no order has been placed"

gotta love telkom.

I will admit though that their manners and service is incredible (for telkom) and I havent heard any call-on-hold music like usual - straight thru to a consultant... looks like they're trying to squeeze in some public good impression before the SNO comes in. Although I guess that all means nothing if the line isnt upgraded and I have to keep calling them back 20 times..

I'm hoping to get an automatic upgrade :D

Still sitting with my line that was upgraded from 384 to 512 without me applying and I'm still being billed for 384 !

Hmm, maybe I should keep quiet about that ... :D

I also ordered on the first and is still waiting. I have started following "the procedure" and the next number I have to phone is tomorrow morning.

6 "working days" (and 4 "non-working" days) and quite a few phone calls, and 2 visits to the local telskumshop - both times told "it's at conformance".

This is for 512 (seems to never be more than 240 anyway) to 1024.

Telskommel, you are frackin' useless and deserve to go bust.

12 days and still waiting...

They said it should be upgraded today or tomorrow. So yeah... :/

7 Days waiting, so far. Was promised a "call back" from the helldesk after inquiring today.

Yeah. Raaaaiiiiiiigghttt...

I ordered on the 6th - 7 days ago - and was told it would take 72 hours. So what should've been done by Friday hadn't been done by yesterday. I called Mr T and they spun the 'conformance testing' yarn, to which I responded with shock: "If I could run 512, I can run 1024!" The T guy said, "actually ... all telkom lines are capable of 1meg throughput". And we both sat on the phone wondering why on earth conformance testing was taking place then.

Anyway, I've been promised that it's been 'escalated' and that I'd have it 24 hours from yesterday at 3. If I have it today at 3, I'll catch four and twenty blackbirds and bake them in a pie.

"We are currently experiencing large call volumes".

I cannot recall a single instance, no matter what time of the day, that that message wasn't being spooled. Shouldn't one increase "capacity" if one experiences "large call volumes"? ;)

Instead the retrench people, when they should be moving them to their call desks ;)

They called me today and said they coming to my house to preform the upgrade tomorrow. I thought they just changed something at the exchange or a setting on some computer. Why do they need to come to my house? o.O

I ordered mine today and was told they need to do line testing which will take 5-7 working days. Once that is done they confirmed they just need to make a change on their exchange for the upgrade to occur. Let's see what happens.
