I've also got a very similar thread open here already
It appears Telkom are trying very hard to protect their existing copper network from becoming obsolete in certain areas. While the platform exists to apply for (or request a demo of) these various new services such as FTTH / LTE uncapped, all of my attempts to apply for or request these services via these official channels have been completely fruitless. Telkom handles each case at their own discretion - Fair enough, but then they should be more transparent and at least have the decency to contact these customers back who prefer to do business with them via the designated channels
Unless they specifically phone you with an offer/invite for these new products/services, then you can practically forget about obtaining them in most cases unless you're mates with someone connected at Telkom, are some kind of 'special' VIP/company yourself, or are willing to go to a Telkom store and argue the point with the agents over the counter - because those methods inevitably seem to have a higher chance of success. So it's not merely a case of coverage at all. It's a real shame that this is the case, because obviously the internet applications are a much more efficient way to show your interest, if they could only follow through with this more reliably. Telkom can only blame themselves for these angry/demanding customers, because of the fact that they are so inconsistent with who they are willing to assist. Any two people in a given area are usually not given equal attention - one might get the service without even trying, while another must jump through 1 million tedious hoops and still nothing comes of it. Why? It doesn't have to be this difficult. if you offer a service, and the user has coverage, why not make a plan to ensure a happy customer and sustainable revenue?
Personally, I'm pretty fed up hearing that Joe Blogg managed to eventually get the service by going to a Telkom store, or applied for another contract and then swapped it out to the one they wanted. In other words I must also take a devious detour in order to obtain the service I want? Doesn't that make everyone's lives more complicated? Why can't their simpler online applications just work? They are making things difficult for everyone including themselves by playing these 'hard-to-get' and 'cherry-picking' approaches. Do they want our business after all?, or is all of this resistance that they offer basically an insinuation that we should rather look to their Competitors for a solution instead? Because that's the impression I get. It appears that these application forms are used for insights about interest more than anything else. A big waste of time and effort, with a major letdown at the end of it all - but this is nothing new when dealing with Telkom, after all it took them nearly 3 years to replace the stolen copper in my street and restore our phone lines
