Irony: The Independent Communications Authority with NO authority...
*Sigh*
useless bunch!!!
It's great that myBB is taking up the cudgel re interconnects. As I posted yesterday, the one workable alternative to regulated reduction in interconnect is public mobilisation: Virgin, Cell C, Internet Solutions, Cosatu, big business etc. Even Telkom could join in this one! Start with Vodacom as they have the most influence.
I think we could get the price down to 99c through public pressure as an interim step and give the legislators time to look longer term.
Even if a lower interconnect price was officially agreed, it would still be phased over time anyway so 99c is a great start.
IMO we should rely on technology to solve our problems. I've been using VOIP on my wife and my phone (N95 & Gizmo). Use about 25MB a month, call quality is top notch, unlimited calls (uses very little bandwidth 729 codec used). Currently it's just me and her, but at least it's a start, and most of my calls go to her anyways. Now if only all could join. If you phone supports integrated VOIP as many of the E/N series Nokias do, you should really consider this.

Who's your VOIP carrier? Or are you using software like Fring / Yeigo... ?
off with their heads. Useless bunch of fools.
I'm using Gizmo. With the N95 or other Nokia VOIP enabled/supported phones there's a built-in client. i.e. in the OS of the phone. So once configured, there's no additional apps that run. When phoning someone you may select Voice, Video, or 'Internet Call'.
If your phone is not a VOIP phone, you can still use Fring, although I found it to be slow, and a bit of a mission. Trying to convince my wife to use it posed the biggest challenge. Now, there's no explaining or nothing. Phone rings as per usual, and she just makes an 'Internet Call' every time she phones me. Brilliant, really.
