How many people run SSDs?

LOL boy 3k sounds like a bargain actually :D.

If only i needed a 256gb though, get by just fine on a 128gb and 2tb drive. I watch all my stuff then load it on my friends and families hd players and delete :D. Always got back ups somewhere i guess hehe

Obviously ssd is a luxury item so buy it if you have spare cash, don't go using your food money for one :D.

I ate the Mushkin Callisto's packaging not long after I got mine... It keeps you going for a good few days, so just make sure you buy the SSD after the 20th of the month.

I think if someone gave me the choice, starve for 10 days or we will destroy your ssd's i actually may just have to give it some thought :p

I've already made the -absolutely and definitely correct- decision that I don't actually need a SSD for my PC at home, at all.
So I went about setting up a RAID array etc. etc...

The thing is, I still spend about 2 hours a week hunting SSD's on the internet, because I "absolutely" don't need another one and I don't have the cash anyway, and err stuff, you know, phaaark it: *opens www.wootware.co.za, again*... :D

Yes, absolutely.
As I've said before, and I'll keep saying. Most of the truly visible performance on an SSD for the average user comes from the low latency. If that 15k drive can equal or better 0.1ms I'd eat my own penis.
Someone who wants to do video editing etc. might disagree of course.
But still, then you use the SSD as a system drive and the 15k drive as the storage medium for massive sequential reads.
 
SSD's are most definitely better than 15k rpm drives, but they also cost considerably more per GB.

SSD pomps 15k drives, most have like 6ms+ seek time. Not to mention the newer clobber the 15k on R/W as well surely? Pada ssd is not about space, it is about speed. Raw kick ass speed :D.

I'd love to get a SSD. Thing is, I'm not interested in getting anything below 300gb. Seeing as a 250gb costs about R4400 it is way out of my price reach for the next few years. I might revisit getting one in about 2 years when they have dropped the price by a large amount.

Load times will be a lot better. I think you should get a extra frame here and there but don't expect it to make a difference like a new CPU or GPU would.

I never said I'm against ssd's, I just said it should be your last upgrade since a 7200rpm mechanical drive is perfect as it is for any pc, or am I mistaken?

Nor did I say you should spend your money on 28TB's of hard drives.

However, when you compare:

1 x 256gb ssd @ R4k
vs
4 x 3TB hdd's @ R4k

I think I can see which is most beneficial to any rational pc user ;)

And I also had an ssd, for 2 days since I realized I don't need one since my pc operates perfect enough for any home/media/gaming pc :)
 
What about hybrid ssds? R1050 for 500gb, 32mb cache, 7200 rpmm 3gb/s...

Been reading amazon reviews and people say they pretty fast...

Hybrids are for people who don't know what they want :) if you want an ssd you should get an ssd, hybrid is a gimmick IMO

Seriously? Definitely the SSD. Not only would it be a challenge to fit an extra four hard drives in my case, I just dont need 12TB of space. heck I barely use 1TB.

Lol I was thinking a rational person would see what I'm trying to say here by matching up a bunch of drives vs the price of 1 ssd.

A rational person I think would take a hdd 1TB< and pocket the R4k odd you save for other things that's more important in life :D

Yes like I said, an ssd should be your last upgrade or investment because no matter how fast your ssd, you can't play games without a gpu. And a good cpu and ram will boost better gaming performance as well. An ssd only helps with load times and a fast pc in general
