Hey guys, I've just moved into a new place. First time prepaid electricity user. Just need some info from you guys please. I can only buy from certain places like spar. Has to be a unipin. If I give places my meter number it's not on the system. I put in R500 the on saturday and only got 273units. I'm sure I'm supposed to get more? From my understanding our complex has gotten some one private to buy electricity then sell it to us at their own rates. It's like private or something. Just want to know from you guys how many units you get for say R500? Or even R250? Or any amount so that I can get an idea? From Saturday at 2 o clock till now I've used 70 units.

I get around 65 units per R100.

Wouldn't advise recharging with too much in one go like you did, as you might be placed on a higher tariff. I usually recharge with R100 or R200 at a time...

My friend here at work tells me even after the increase if he puts R500 he gets about 600 units.

@MickeyD, I know it's not rocket science but I honestly don't know what's going on in that attachment or what I'm looking at tbh.lol

Those are our rates, which works on a stepped tariff system. The more you use, the more you pay.

Using the bottom set of tariffs... 1 unit will cost you R1.34 up to a maximum of 350 units. Then you move to the next step - R1.60 per unit.

So for R500 at the beginning of the month you will get:
1. 350u x R1.34 = R469.70
2. 19u x R1.60 = R30.44

= 369 units.

If he lives in PE and is registered on the ATTP (Assistance to the Poor) program then he will get 543 units per the first set of tariffs.

1. 75u x R0.69 = R51.55
2. 275u x R0.75 = R207.52
3. 193u x R1.25 = R241.73

= 543 units.

For R500 u basically got 100 units more then what I did

The first day I got there I recharged with R100. They took R44 for fees or what ever and only gave me R56 worth which was 31 units so I'm not sure if buying in smaller amounts will help

JHB R1000 buys 785 units.

Can't be bothered to feed the meter every 5 minutes.

In PE R1000 will get you 673 units.

Just checked ours now. In winter the 0-350 block is 23% more expensive than during summer and the 350+ block is 30% more! Looking at my slip for this month, it seems like we are on the summer tariff again! yayay!! Which means that for R 1000, I can get my dirty hands on 834 units of juice!!!

/leaves pool pump on and goes to bed

EDIT: Oh wait, these tariffs are before the last increase. Now I am a sad panda again with less than 700 units for 1k :crying:

I'm living in a gated estate that steals from the residents by overcharging for prepaid electricity. I pay R1.88 per unit flat rate.
