R1.64 per kWh supplied from Eskom. I am suspecting the complex is taking a cut.
Once VAT gets added R200 buys 106.78 units. :crying:

This would be a nice survey for MyBB.

Hey all - I'd like to know if anyone that converted to prepaid has seen a reduction in their monthly electricity costs and if so what are the numbers?
If you're COJ, then it's cheaper on prepaid unless you use more than about 3000kwh per month. The lack of standing charges makes a huge difference.

I stay in a complex in Sandton 22.20 units per R100 (Actaris)
They are screwing you.
You should be receiving the 'Inclined Block Tariff' which for Eskom is R1.08 per kWh for the first 600 kWh. You are paying 100% more than legally required.

If you are a tenant then file a complaint with the Rental Housing Tribunal. You should be getting the same rate as a standalone house. This is an unfair practice as per Gauteng Unfair Practice Regulations.

Complaint form is attached. Their services are free and you represent yourself.

See more here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...ce-Charges-amp-Resellers-mark-ups-are-Illegal

If you are a sectional title owner in a complex then your body corporate needs to litigate against Eskom.

See article: https://www.iolproperty.co.za/roller/news/entry/unfair_sectional_title_billing_lands

The following is from Eskom's 2015/Schedule:

Who will receive Incline Block Tariff electricity?

The Incline Block tariffs have been implemented for all residential tariffs from Eskom. This means prepayment and conventional customers will have the same block tariffs and pay the same price for electricity.

Most municipalities have similar inclined block tariffs. They also have similar bylaws with regards to electricty resale.

Section 17 (3) of the Greater Johannesburg Metropolitan Electricity Bylaws, Resale of Electricity:

(3) The charge made by such seller shall not exceed the charge determined by the council which the council itself supplies electricity and every such purchaser shall be entitled to require the seller to furnish such accounts, documents and other information as may be necessary to enable the purchaser to ascertain whether the accounts rendered for electricity supplied are correct.

SECTION 38
Offences and Penalties
(1) Any person contravening or failing to comply with any provision of these by-laws shall be guilty of an offence and shall upon conviction be liable for a fine not exceeding R2 000-00 or, in default of payment, to imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months.

For Johannesburg, a criminal case can be filed against such a reseller as they are in direct breach of 17(3) of the bylaw. Another criminal case can be filed under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act; as this amounts to racketeering.
