How much cash do you keep on hand?

Knowing the OP seems like he's knowledgeable on finances, has a busy job and travels regularly, I'm guessing he's got more that half a months wages if he loses his job...

And yet he can't even phrase a question properly

:D

The wide variety of responses does suggest I screwed up the question. :/

I mean emergency fund. Not interested in how many notes you've got in your wallet. Kind thought the "emergency fund" and months worth gave it away but ok

Nope - half a month in readily available cash. After that, credit cards till investments get liquidated.

Pretty much what I collected from your post. And 1/2 month is not that good to be honest.

When you say 'emergency fund, you mean the amount of fiat you have available either in hard cash or in bank accounts?

Why? That's what credit card(s) are for.

Probably bank account. If you have a few grand in the safe you're stupid since it doesn't get you interest.

But what if the world collapses and banking systems are meaningless? Having a healthy stack of cash will ensure that you get killed first, thus getting put out your misery sooner.

I'm assuming the OP is talking about non-credit based assets that can be used to obtain physical cash without requiring instruction to a third party (e.g., to sell stock/bonds or cancel a fixed deposit).

I have about 60 months, which is probably too much. I will probably invest a chunk of it soon.

I have about [-]64k[/-] [-]54k[/-] [-]44k[/-] [-]34k[/-] 14k in BTC that I should be able to liquidate quick enough to get R2k out at short notice.

HavocXphere I think you need to define "cash".

Because in my mind a rainy day fund shouldn't be held in actual currency.

****

Oh I see you clarified in a latter post.

Was settled on about six months or so but dipped into it recently so more like 4 months now but will probably be back to normal after tax season.

About 20 months all sitting in my access bond. Plus about 4 months in available credit limit on cards.

Is the cash on hand statement that confuses people.

Where's LaraC was wondering how long she would survive and take me in.
