Depends on the industry. In software development R1m gross is pretty mid-level these days. A lot of senior devs are making double that.
@ToxicBunny - Exhibit A above.
Nah, most of the people who comment that "a million rand salary is nothing" are those who are projecting and wish they earned anything near to that amount :p

Just calling it like I see it. And in the software dev industry a R1m a year salary is nothing to write home about, even in South Africa. South African dev companies are paying big bucks to hold on to senior dev talent, and R1 million a year ain't gonna do it.
It's a lovely place to be. I'd laugh away an offer of R1mil

I dunno really but it is usually the people who comment 'A million rand salary is nothing' etc.. whenever thread is about IT income. :p
Pre Covid, I was part of the group, even got a 10% increase.

Now I am not a member. Having excess disposable income is very nice.

It's no surprise that there is an inverse correlation seen between the amount of kuk talking on mybroadband and earnings.

As someone who's been involved in the recruitment of senior devs (specifically .NET) I can confirm that an offer of R1 million a year salary won't even get the guy to come for an interview. These guys know how much they're worth. And even if you could get someone for that salary or less they won't stick around for very long before they're headhunted by someone who can make them a better offer. The reality is that if you want them to stick around they have to be earning at least what they could be earning overseas, if not more, to make it worth their while.
