Maybe not double but he isn't wrong. Especially in the banking space.

More so I would say in the banking space it's probably the minimum for anyone with a few years experience in a permanent role that isn't some kind of intern setup.

More than 1M is a big range.

Just squeaking in over R1M is very different league to say R3m. I reckon in the software/it/dev/finance (any professional) space there are many in the 'just squeaking R1M' range. Which will enable a small family to almost cling to the bottom rungs of 1st world middle class. (not SA middle class, which is apparently someone with a fridge)

Worked with the proper paid devs at 2 banks; earned R2.2m and R2.5m if I remember right. They were key-man dependencies lol.

The rest of the devs are important and earn decently but are kept at bay by R1m packages; decent bonuses and the -2.5% prime rate.

I hate working with furniture devs. They've been there for 20 years, think the sun shines out of their behinds.

Next up: x amount of millionaires spend x amount of time on the Internet today.

Why not.
Many, if not most on this forum have some form of tertiary education, many holding university degrees.
We have a couple of dentists here, some pharmacists, a few doctors, some engineers, a couple of lawyers, many business owners - all local.

In that case 7 is not very many. There are a couple of members I'd put at well over R1M but at least 2 of them aren't in SA.

When I still worked for a SA bank around two and a half years ago, we'd pay our grads R650k. A lot of people here seem to be happy to be underpaid for their scarce skills.
