How much do you pay for rent?

I hear this quite often. But it is really tough to buy. Another probkem is that your first house is generally small like an apartment. You then still need to save for the bigger place.

You could think of the money going into your bond as savings as your house will generally increase in value.

R3 850 for this place. Not sure how big it is but I think it could be 103 sq. meters in total.

2 bedrooms, both the same size, kitchen, 1 bathroom, and a sizeable living area. Much bigger than my previous flat of 59 sq. meters.

I'm stuck paying insane occupational rent in the place I'm busy buying due to transfer delays. R16500.00 for 200sqm in Sandown. :(

Holy drape, that while your till paying your bond on your new place or is this the new place?

I'm also staying in a mining town, but there just isn't enough housing for everyone, so owners can just charge what they want.
Paying R4700 for a one bed room flat, about 70sqm, electricity is another R1000 pm.
Its Lephalale.

I heard buying property in an active mining town is a good investment. The mining along the Namibian coast is also something to look at.

Woah. I wonder what your mortgage payments are going to be.

R18K. But the sale of my old house should be going through next week, and I can dump the profit into my new bond which should bring it down to around R12K.

R3950 excl. Elec. Bartlett JNB East Rand. Upstairs 80m2 ish. 1 carport.
R4600 incl. Elec. Ground floor Glen Ashley DUR. 1bed 66m2.
R5000 excl. Elec. Umgeni Park DUR. 2 bed 90m2 upstairs. 1 covered parking.

Good idea for a sticky. I'm sure many people moving around SA could benefit from this info.

It is. I've heard of locals that convert their garages into rooms and charge 8000 pm :wtf:

Can't see myself buying in such a crappy town though, I want to be able to just leave in a minutes notice.

Won't it only decrease the term and not the payment?

If you ask the bank to, they will recalculate on the new value. So yes as standard it reduces term but if you contact them it can reduce the repayment

I'm posting down the road from you; Old Mutual.

Where in CT?

I am presently looking for a place in the larger town vicinity. 1 / 2 bedroom place for a maximum of R8k per month. That is not going too great.

My usual rent was R6940 in Villa Italia, Century City. This was a bargain considering most folk there are looking at R7500+ for the same 2 bedroom place. Tw'as a 64sqm place.

Run around like a crazy person and let me see if I can identify you :p

Edit,

R5400 Tokai CT
