Hi,

With Beam-me increasing my fee from R99 to R139, I figured I'd see if there were cheaper alternatives for tracking your vehicle.
I just need/want the basic of the basic.

If you are on the expensive plans.. why? Do you want back your stolen car :wtf:

Depends on whether you want your car back or not?

Discovery Insure - No Tracker- can track the cars using the DQ trackers.

I got email also, I was paying R59 a month not sure how much it is now.

R0

When I bought my new car I asked my broker how much a tracking unit really affects my premium and it turns out the cost of the unit is more than the saving.

Besides, once my car is stolen and involved in a high speed getaway I pray I never see it again.

Tracker just under R150 so R139 isn't too bad - just a bit of a huge hike from R99

Take an old phone, switch on location sharing, hide it in the car somewhere and track it via Google Maps.

Depending on where it is you can decide whether or not you really want to phone SAPS and tell them where to find it

:crylaugh: can't provide a cert for insurance with that sadly. Save 200 odd just by having the thing so it worked out.

Tracker makes you sign a 3 year contact and still increase the price. After 3 years they keep it on month to month at the higher premium.
When you call to cancel it then "magically" they reduce it to the original lowest premium.

In any case some insurers require a tracker even if they don't discount the premium.
