If I remember correctly, round about that time I got pocket money of R2 per week (Paper money!). And that R2 could buy me a cold drink and one of those big trains full of Smarties.

I remember changed jobs from a salary of R900/month to R1700/month. Flat rent at the new job was R300/month W+L included. Lived like a King.

Dude wtf? Were your parents rich? I got R1 a month.... and from that I could go to the arcade and play games all day (20c a game)

Our addiction was so much that we measured buying chips/coldrinks in the number of "lives" we would have gotten in double dragon...

*cough* cigarettes were around R1.50 for 20..i sorta started smoking that year.
but it was ok, you could return milk bottles and coke bottles for the deposit money, and use that for smokes.

i also bought a 1gb scsi drive (full height) 5.25 monster for roughly R1800 iirc (it may have been a year or two later...)

I remember earning R156-00 per month during military service.
I got an extra R4-00 per day while on border duty, whether you were in Rundu, or hundreds of km's north.
