How much MTN paid for Afrihost

well i'll be back from next month so really hope everything is back to normal, the uncapped i have now is a bit pricey and looking at my usage i might as well go back to capped as i dont really use much data.

Our Capped users have been reporting good things over the past few weeks.

We're always excited to have old Clients join us again!

I'm really sorry you had this bad experience. That really shouldn't happen, as far as I am aware the APN gives you full access to the MTN's network, the same as directly with them. I am not sure what process was followed here but this is something we could definitely take up with MTN, based on the evidence and try to resolve with them.

I'm also sorry to hear that so many of you have left us. I can't say much but I believe this may be our biggest year ever. With MTN's support we have some great things planned for the future and I believe we'll fulfil our client's belief in the values and beliefs that have won their trust and loyalty. I hope that when that happens you'll be one of the people we are able to win back :)

Unfortunately that was my experience too, had to use 3G for a few months while my ADSL was being installed and the performance was really bad with 90%+ signal.
It was fine though using my mtn network sim.
Lately the mifi is just a backup for travel and loadshedding though so it doesnt make much difference to me anymore.

Still a happy capped Afrihost customer here. I'm just dreading the end of Data Plus in June/July.

Once again to say "Bleeding Customers" is slightly misleading, over the course of any given month we will always have Clients leave Afrihost and Clients join Afrihost, and this ratio has really not changed much, I think there is maybe a perception that we are losing Clients in significant numbers, but I can assure you it is definitely not the case.

Once again I cannot speak for MTN, but I do get the feeling that they have been satisfied with Afrihost, there are quite a few cool projects in the pipeline that I don't think would be if they weren't satisfied with us.

You are a brave soul for taking all the flack on behalf of the company. I hope they reward you handsomely

Not quite spot on.

He is a brave soul for actually responding in a friendly and civil manner to all the idiotic allegations flying around.

They might shed more customers at that time just like what happened when double mobile ended. I had a couple of mobile packages but left in December and didn't even move to Axxess but rather went Telkom Mobile full time. I sure hope MTN is not behind all these changes

So it's the Afrihost APN then ? Been wondering why MTN data is so cr@p here in East London. Tried to use my free data I got with the Zest, but it just goes to waste every month. Time to ditch the whole lot and port to Telkom Mobile ... already cancelled my adsl with them, IS is better than MTN shaped network for gaming.

Strangely enough I don't have anything negative to report. I have nearly 2 TB of ADSL capped bw from Afrihost, and even though we don't use it all each month, quite a chunk goes on torrents. When downloading torrents, it is always full line speed, about 500 to 600 KBytes/s even during the day. As I don't watch speeds 24/7 it may have been poor at times, but I have not noticed.
I have hardly used customer service, and on the single occasion I did, they were fine, just had to be a bit patient before I was dealt with.

Actually my only negative experience with Afrihost was the two crap Zest phones I bought through them. Not really their product, but is the only negative thing I can think of associated with them.

I've only had gr8 service from Afrihost and one minor issue was sorted and I was even compensated almost 10 fold so my loyalty is very strong towards Afrihost. I have only mobile data x 4 and fixed data through them and quite happy. If I was unhappy I would be the first to bleet.

I can honestly say that we haven't lost any more clients since the MTN Acquisition on average each month, than before MTN purchased a majority share in Afrihost.

I can't speak for MTN, but I believe that Afrihost represents a segment of the market that MTN has until now had difficulty penetrating, and by acquiring Afrihost it allows MTN to broaden its market share.

I find that hard to believe.
We used to add a few adsl account to afrihost every month + hosted numerous sites with them when they were still good. After things went pear shaped, with clients spitting bullets and the ever ongoing "there is nothing wrong with our network" we moved all our clients away from afrihost and i know of numerous ex-afrihost users that have moved on also.

Support is still an ongoing joke - client could log into webmail (got a server redirect error) and was told to change his password..... needless to say we have migrated them since also.
