How much should I charge for carpooling

if you know how much fuel you used and km driven, then it should be pretty easy to work out the petrol costs. Also I would add the amount you spend on car servicing per year / 365 days. Then add that amount to each day (divided by amount of people using the car of course). I believe there is no need to make a profit here, they are your friends after all.

Technically - you also forgot to add capital depreciation to the equation.

If others are deriving a benefit from the car - it should not be out of his pocket that they do so.

take the AA rates for your vehicle work total distance travelled per month and divvy by 3.

you only need a pdp and insurance if you run a professional service with varied passenger load for profit.

I just need to need cover costs, because as soon as I started to cart people around my consumption went up.
I have an automatic golf 1.6l if that helps.

I first suggested around 160 a month but I am now on the second tank of fuel and I think carting people is way more expensive than I considered.

My friend suggested one and half tanks divided by three. That the result would be around R200-R250.
